A message from the Principal

A message from the Principal

I trust that our school families had a restful and enjoyable winter break. While I'm sure that many parents continued to work as normal, I hope that the break from the regular school routines was refreshing for families.

I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with students at the Senior and Junior School athletics carnivals at the beginning of the week. The Senior School carnival had magnificent, almost spring like weather. While the Junior School day was cooler and overcast, both events were a great opportunity for students to participate and achieve their personal best. I had the privilege of seeing a long jump record broken and I even threw a discus to the cheers of some Junior School boys.

Congratulations to every student who participated. Many thanks to Mr. Adams, Mrs. Strong, and all the teachers and parents who contributed to making the day so successful.

I would like to share some staffing news as we start the term.

In the Junior School, Mrs. Janice Campbell will be on long service leave this term. Mrs. Hannah Blundy, one of our existing teacher's aides, will take over Mrs. Campbell's class. Other Junior School teachers will assume Mrs. Campbell's leadership role for years three and four. We have employed Ms. Cassandra Kiany to temporarily replace Mrs. Blundy as a teacher's aide.

I would like to congratulate Mrs. Chloe Rene, a kindergarten teacher, who had a baby boy during the holidays.

In the Senior School, Mrs. Jennifer Soane has been employed as a permanent full-time English teacher. Mrs. Soane is very experienced and capable and we warmly welcome her.

Mrs Ann O’Connor is returning to RHAC in week 2 as one of our learning enrichment aides in the Senior School to support students with identified needs.

We have two new teachers in our HSIE faculty, Mr. Bradley Henderson and Ms. Angela Cutajar. They are both very experienced and committed teachers. They are replacing Mr. Robert Souksavath, who is moving overseas, and Mrs. Rachel Taylor, who has changed roles at RHAC.

Mr. Tyler Barnes' wife had a baby boy during the holidays. We trust that God will bless their growing young family.

In a newsletter article late last term, I briefly mentioned that I had advertised for a newly created leadership role at the college, the Head of Professional Practice. This leadership position largely involves a perceptive and experienced teacher working directly with other teachers to help them develop their professional practice skills. I am confident that this will improve learning and help children to achieve academically. Applications for this position have closed and interviews will take place in coming weeks.

Finally, please think of and pray for our Year 12 students who will be sitting their trials in coming weeks. These exams are very demanding and the results contribute directly to each student's final HSC marks. I trust that God will give every student the ability to calmly recall information and answer every question in every exam to the best of their ability.

From the Scriptures

Joyful hearts in challenging times: embracing God's will in our family life

Joyful hearts in challenging times: embracing God's will in our family life

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Apostle Paul (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

As parents, life can sometimes feel overwhelming, filled with the demands of work, family, and the challenges of raising children. In the midst of hectic schedules and unexpected hurdles, Paul’s words serve as a gentle reminder to maintain a posture of joy and gratitude.

In this passage, the Apostle Paul is writing to the church in Thessalonica, encouraging them to live a life that reflects their faith in Jesus Christ. The Thessalonians were facing persecution and challenges, and Paul reminds them of the importance of maintaining a joyful heart, being persistent in prayer, and cultivating an attitude of gratitude. This exhortation is meant to ground them in their faith and remind them that their circumstances do not dictate their ability to rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

Rejoice Always: This doesn’t mean we ignore our struggles but rather choose to find joy in the little things—like a child's laughter or a successful school project. Celebrate those moments together as a family before God.

Pray Continually: Establishing a habit of prayer, whether it’s morning devotions or evening reflections, can help ground your family in faith. Encourage your children to pray about their day and their concerns, fostering an open dialogue with God.

Give Thanks in All Circumstances: Teach your children the value of gratitude, even when things don’t go as planned. Perhaps start a family gratitude journal where you can write down things you are thankful for each day, reinforcing that there is always something to appreciate, no matter the situation.

By embracing this posture, we can create a nurturing environment rooted in faith in Jesus, fostering resilience and joy in ourselves and our children. Let us strive to embody these teachings in our daily lives, becoming beacons of hope in Christ and encouragement within our families and communities.

NSW All Schools Cross Country

We are thrilled to announce that Year 7 student, Savannah P, represented our College and the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) at the 2025 NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships, held on Tuesday, 22 July, at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in Horsley Park.

Competing in the 13 Years Girls 3km race, Savannah delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 11th out of 105 competitors with an impressive time of 11:43.10. This achievement places her among the top young runners in the state.

As a result of her performance, she has been named a reserve for the NSW All Schools team, with the potential to compete at the School Sport Australia Cross Country Championships later this year.

Congratulations, Savannah, on your exceptional accomplishment. We look forward to following your continued success in cross country.

Morning traffic management & student safety (Junior School)

Morning traffic management & student safety (Junior School)

In my newsletter article at the end of last term, I mentioned that I will give particular attention to transport issues during Term 3. In the interests of traffic flow and student safety, I ask Junior School parents/carers to adhere to the following:

  • Parents/Carers who drive their children to school and drop them off must only use the K block drop off area that is approached by driving through Gate 5.
  • Do not use the H block carpark as a drop off area.
  • If you would like to park and walk your children onto the school grounds or pick them up at the end of the day, you are welcome to park in the middle of the K block carpark or on the lower level of the H block carpark on the condition that you cross all roads with your children and walk them into the school grounds.
  • Only Pre-K parents/carers can park in the marked parking spaces in the bay closest to the through road at K block.
  • Do not use the L Block carpark (adjacent to the basketball courts) to drop off or pick up children as this is not a designated drop off area and there are no safe footpaths for students to use.
  • Parents/Carers may use the L Block carpark before 8:00am and after 4:00pm to walk into KT OOSH and drop off or collect their children from KT OOSH.
  • Please do not drop off your children in any other location. If you are bringing your children early to school for band or choir, please park and walk them into the school.

Parents/Carers who have a very specific need to do something different to what is outlined above should write to Mr Craig Hutchinson to explain their specific circumstances.

Thanks very much for your understanding. Dr Chalwell and I are confident that these arrangements are the best way to limit traffic congestion and reduce the risk of accidents.

Please also note additional updates on Parking for Visitors and Families section in the Parent and Carer Handbook.

SORA reading app

As mentioned in previous newsletters students of the College have free access to the SORA reading app . This is an online library.

How to login/download the app:

  • Students in Years 3-6 need their school email address and password (students use this to log onto the school laptops).
  • Students in Years 1-2 also log in using these credentials.

If you would like your child’s email address and password, please contact me via email . Unfortunately, students in Pre-K and Kindergarten can only access the app by using an older siblings' log-in. Families can log in via the web or download the free app to your device.

The SORA reading app has a large range of both audio and ebooks. We have set the app to only allow appropriate texts for PreK-6 for our students to use. The app works on a borrowing system much like borrowing the physical book. After borrowing, students have access to the book for a period of 2 weeks at which time they can renew for longer if no-one else has it on reserve.

Term 3 Representative Sports Calendar & Nomination Guidelines

Term 3 Representative Sports Calendar & Nomination Guidelines

In addition to the weekly updates, Senior School students have been emailed a calendar outlining all the representative sporting opportunities for Term 3.

Please note, students who nominate to trial for these teams should have extensive playing experience and in the case of AICES and CIS trials, students should be playing in a representative team outside of school at an association or state level. Some sports, such as cricket, require students to be involved in certain representative teams or academies for nominations to be accepted.

Nomination Guidelines:

  • All nominations should come from the student interested in trialing.
  • Students MUST email all nominations to the Head of Student Opportunities ( [email protected] ) AT LEAST 2 days before the nomination date . Late nominations will not be accepted. Students who do not nominate will be turned away from any trial they attend.

Once the nomination has been completed and accepted, further information about the trial will be sent to students and their nominated parent email address.

Reminder: Process of notifying the College of your child's absence

Reminder: Process of notifying the College of your child's absence

Effective from Term 3 , parents will no longer need to email the College when their child will be absent. Instead, parents/carers are to wait for and respond to the absence notifications that are sent via the College mobile app.

Parents/carers are already receiving absence notifications via the College mobile app at approximately 9:30am each morning where they are asked to submit a reason for their child/s absence.

Although this process has been in place for some time, we would like to streamline the process further. Currently, parents are still being asked to email [email protected] or [email protected] to report known absences. This process will be phased out.

We encourage families to download the College app using the links below.
