A message from Principal Hartley

A message from Principal Hartley

From time to time, people ask me what RHAC specialises in or what we have a reputation for. For example, “Are you mainly a sporting school or do you concentrate on academics or music?”

RHAC is committed to a holistic education. That means that we don’t specialise in one area of learning over another. It is important for young people to access a range of learning opportunities because a child’s interests and passions often change. During primary school and early high school I was keen to pursue my interest in human physiology. However, it was during Year 9 that I really discovered what became my lifelong interest in the social sciences, particularly economics and law.

The current rehearsals for our Senior School musical, Mary Poppins, are a wonderful way for some of our students discover and develop their passion for the performing arts. I watched a rehearsal last Saturday. The energy, skill and enthusiasm of our students was very encouraging to see. I hope that many of our cast and crew will grow and develop because of their participation in what promises to be a fabulous production. I’m sure they would love to perform to a full house, so please buy your tickets !

Participating in the performing arts develop skills and qualities that extend beyond the excitement of being on the stage. Monologues, speeches and songs that are performed to a live audience develop a student’s ability to project and articulate in a way that engages those who watch and listen. Performers develop strong abilities to read and interpret human behaviour. These qualities are essential in human relationships.

Many of our students will move on from RHAC to study specialised courses at university and TAFE. However, once our former students start working they will need to work with others effectively to achieve the goals their employer sets for them. After a few years of work many people apply for promotional positions which require them to lead a team. Students who were involved in the performing arts at school are likely to have the skills to develop a deep understanding of those they lead and help each member of their team to perform at a high level. I hope to see some of our parents at the show!

Mr Brett Hartley Principal

From the Scriptures

Cultivating the Fruits of the Spirit

Cultivating the Fruits of the Spirit

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

As parents of school students, we often find ourselves in the midst of a whirlwind of emotions, challenges, and joys. These years can be both exhilarating and exhausting, filled with moments that test our patience, understanding, and love. In these times, it is essential to ground ourselves in the teachings of Scripture, particularly in Galatians 5:22-23, which reminds us of the fruits of the Spirit we are called to cultivate in ourselves and to model for our children.

This passage invites us to consider how we embody love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our daily lives, especially in our roles as parents. Each fruit represents a quality that can greatly influence our family dynamics and set a foundation for our teenagers as they navigate their world.

  • Love: How can we show unconditional love to our children, even when they are difficult to understand?
  • Joy: In what ways can we find joy in the small moments, celebrating our children’s achievements and interests?
  • Peace: Are we creating a peaceful home environment where our teens feel safe to express themselves?
  • Forbearance: When conflicts arise, can we practice patience and understanding rather than reacting in frustration?
  • Kindness and Goodness: How can we encourage acts of kindness within our family and model goodness in our actions?
  • Faithfulness: Are we committed to being present in our children’s lives, supporting their dreams and aspirations
  • Gentleness: How can we communicate with gentleness, especially during tough conversations?
  • Self-control: In moments of stress or disagreement, can we demonstrate self-control and respond thoughtfully rather than impulsively?

I love the last sentence - ‘Against such things there is no law’. We will never experience police issuing us a fine for having too much joy, or gentleness. Godly attributes are true freedom and the sky’s the limit exercising this freedom. These are good and godly attributes that we all struggle to live out. So we need to ask God for his help.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of our children. Help us to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit in our lives so that we can lead by example. May our homes be filled with love and joy, and may we approach each day with peace and patience. Guide us as we navigate the challenges of parenting, and help us to be the nurturing support they need. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

Stage 2 students set sail through history at the Maritime Museum

Stage 2 students set sail through history at the Maritime Museum

On Tuesday 6th May and Tuesday 13th May, Stage 2 students (Year 3-4) visited the Australian National Maritime Museum at Pyrmont. This excursion was to consolidate and bring to life our Term 1 unit in History on Indigenous Peoples and Early Explorers . The children participated in the Endeavour Replica Tour and the Navigators, Explorers and Traders Tour. We were also able to take a self-guided visit to the HMAS Vampire.

It was an amazing experience for the students to see first-hand the navigational tools used in the days of early exploration; the canoes used by the Aboriginal Peoples and Macassar Traders and lots of artefacts from the exploration days. The most impressive experience was being able to not only see, but to board and explore the replica of Captain James Cook’s ship The Endeavour . The children were quite amazed by many details of the ship which brought to life what it would have been like in the days of exploration and how small the ship would have been for the number of people aboard, in spite of it looking enormous to them. They were also able to see the replica of the Duyfken, which was the first European ship to reach Australia in 1606 captained by Willem Janszoon.

It was a fantastic day and experience for the children, and we could not have done it without the generous support from our parent helpers.

Student highlights from the excursion:

  • The excursion to the Maritime Museum was really fun because we got to see all the artefacts and we got to learn more about the explorers. The ships looked really nice and were quite squishy. (Blake)
  • I really enjoyed the excursion because we got to dive deeper into what we were learning in class about History, and we got to see artefacts of the early explorers. It was amazing and fun to go on the Endeavour and it really captured our imagination. (Anam)
  • I loved the excursion. We learnt lots of things about early explorers and we learnt about life on the sea. The Endeavour was very, very, big with lots of underneath spaces. (Arjun)
  • I felt really excited to go on the excursion. I liked going in the museum gallery because there were so many cool things to see like the ghost net artworks. I thought going under the deck of the Endeavour was really amazing. The children should go on this excursion again next year. (Aarya)

CIS Swimming Championships

We had 3 students represent the College at the CIS Swimming Championships. They were up against the best independent school swimmers in NSW and I am proud to share the following results:

  • Zahli P: 4th 12-14 years 200m backstroke
  • Hanna L: 6th 16 years girls 50m freestyle (with a personal best time of 27.83!!)
  • Riley W: 2nd in both the 12-14 years 100m back and 200m backstroke, 4th in the 50m backstroke and 5th in the 200m butterfly.

Congratulations and well done!

CIS Football Plate

Our open boys football team took on St Marks Coptic Orthodox College in Week 1 at Valentine Sports Park. Having a last-minute change of venue due to the wet weather didn’t deter the boys with team coach Mr Kennedy saying it was the “best performance he had seen from the team all season” ending with a convincing 4-1 win. We take on Illawarra Grammar School in the quarter finals of this competition.

Bill Turner Football

Our Bill Turner Girls took on Rouse Hill High School in their second-round match up of this knockout competition. Despite a number of injuries/illness making some key players unavailable, the girls were not fazed and the game started in similar fashion to the last round with a 2-0 lead after just 10 minutes of play. From there the goals continued with Kaylee P scoring 6 times on the way to a 10-0 victory. We wait on other results to find out who our next opponent will be.

Our boys will take on The Ponds High School in their next round this Friday at Jonas Bradley Oval. Kick off will be at 1:30pm.

Representative Pathways

We have several students who have been selected in teams or have represented the College and our pathways over the past week.

Well done to Ana-Sue D and Taylor W who were selected in the AICES Touch Football team and competed at the CIS Championships last week. Congratulation to Ana who was selected in the CIS U15 team.

We have several players who were selected in HZSA football teams and competed in the AICES championships earlier this week. Congratulations to the Open girls who came 5th overall, Open boys and U15 Boys who both finished 3rd and to our U15 girls who were Champions on the day!

Congratulation again to Ana-Sue D who was selected in the U15 CIS Australian Football team this week and will compete in the Australian Football Championships in June.

Updated: Stage 3 girls' uniform

Updated: Stage 3 girls' uniform

It was announced in our College newsletter (October 2024) regarding changes to the Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) girls’ uniform. The skirt and blouse can be worn in both winter and summer and ultimately will replace the summer and winter tunics. While the skirt is the same as the secondary school skirt, the blouse has been especially designed for the Junior School.

There will be a two year period (2025-2026) where families can opt for their children to wear the existing uniform or to change to the new uniform.

Reminder: Students must have Opal Card for bus travel

We’ve recently observed an increase in the number of students attempting to board school buses without a valid School Opal card.

Students must carry a valid School Opal card each day for travel.

It is a condition of the School Pass Terms and the Student Codes of Conduct when travelling that students in possession of the School Opal card must tap on and tap off every time when using public transport to travel to and from school. For more information, visit the Parent and Carer Handbook .

Thank you for your support in ensuring safe and responsible travel for all students.

Term 2 Representative Sports Calendar & Nomination Guidelines

This calendar outlines the nomination (Nom), trial and competition dates for the RHAC Senior School representative sporting pathways (HZSA > AICES > CIS > NSW All Schools > SSA). As this is a representative pathway, students who nominate to trial for these teams should have extensive playing experience and in the case of AICES and CIS trials, students be playing in a representative team outside of school at an association or state level. Some sports, such as cricket, require students to be involved in certain representative teams or academies in order for nominations to be accepted. If this is the case, further information will be emailed to students by the Head of Student Opportunities. Students trialling for OPEN or U18/19 teams must, at a minimum, be in Year 9 (Students in Year 9 MUST have extensive representative experience).

Effective from Term 3 , parents will no longer need to email the College when their child will be absent. Instead, parents/carers are to wait for and respond to the absence notifications that are sent via the College mobile app.

Parents/carers are already receiving absence notifications via the College mobile app at approximately 9:30am each morning where they are asked to submit a reason for their child/s absence.

Although this process has been in place for some time, we would like to streamline the process further. Currently, parents are still being asked to email [email protected] or [email protected] to report known absences. This process will be phased out.

To allow families time to adjust, we will continue accepting absence emails for the remainder of Term 2 . We encourage families to download the College app using the links below.

Thank you for your support.

RHAC P&F Association

A message from the P&F President

A message from the P&F President

Thank You & A Spoonful of Fun!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Mother's Day Breakfast! It was a joy to see so many smiling faces (and full bellies) as we celebrated the amazing mums, grandmothers, and special women in our lives. We hope your Mother’s Day was filled with love, laughter, maybe even a hot coffee (while it was still hot!) or even a moment of peace!
Now that the pancakes have settled, it’s time to grab your umbrellas and prepare for something practically perfect...

Speaking of perfect...
The P&F is thrilled to support RHAC’s Senior School production of Mary Poppins! Get ready to be swept off your feet by a magical night of music, laughter, and chimney sweeps - all performed by our incredibly talented school community. Whether you're a fan of flying nannies, catchy tunes, or just good old-fashioned fun, this show is practically perfect in every way. This is one show you don’t want to miss - mainly because your kids will talk about it for weeks if you do.

Helping Everyone Join the Fun
We believe this show should be enjoyed by everyone in our school community. If you know a family who would love to attend but may be doing it tough right now, please don’t hesitate to reach out - confidentially - to the P&F. We’d be more than happy to donate some tickets to ensure everyone has a chance to experience the magic.

The P&F are also proud to be supporting RHAC Relay for Life, a cause close to many hearts. To help keep those legs moving and spirits high, the P&F will be donating noodles and energy drinks for the brave walkers powering through the night. It’s our little way of saying “you’ve got this!” while helping raise funds for cancer research and support services. Thank you to everyone contributing to this important cause.

Together, we're creating community, memories, and a little bit of magic - one event at a time!

Warm regards,
Mrs Sneha Pandey
President, RHAC P&F

Family Support Meals

Family Support Meals

From time to time, fellow families at the College are hit by unforeseen stresses (physical, emotional, financial, etc.). The RHAC P&F, through your support, facilitates a way for those families to access quality meals in their time of need to simply ease a bit of the pain during difficult times.

You can help by donating a store-bought meal , or by donating as little as $10.00 by clicking the TryBooking link below which would be greatly appreciated. If you can provide a store-bought meal for the freezer, slices/banana breads / muffins (lunch box fillers) and desserts are also most welcome and may be dropped off with Mrs Sharon D’Agostino at the College main reception.
