  • Junior School and Senior School Camps
  • Senior School building - Official Opening and group tours

The recent Junior School and Senior School camps were a wonderful experience. They helped students to build their confidence in unfamiliar environments by engaging them in group activities that develop their ability to connect with others and think laterally. Significantly, they did this without a device in front of their faces!

I thoroughly enjoyed being with Year 9 at their camp this week. Seeing energised and engaged students participating and relating positively to each other was very encouraging.

Relational teaching is one RHAC’s 5 Teaching and Learning Principles . Camps are a fabulous way for students to see their teachers in a different context and build meaningful relationships with them. Seeing several students warmly share an experience or a joke with their teachers demonstrated the meaningful, positive connections our students have with their teachers. I even managed to get on the ground and participate in a push-up challenge! My ageing muscles and bones seemed to cope with the experience.

I’m sure when our parents reflect on their experiences at school, they may struggle to remember Shakespearean quotes or maths formulas. However, they will recall the relationships they formed and how their personal interactions contributed to a better understanding of themselves and others.

Meaningful relationships are fundamental to the Christian faith. The Bible teaches us how we should relate to each other and the nature of our relationship to God. At the core of this relationship is Jesus Christ. Over the Easter break I encourage our families to reflect on Jesus death for our sins and that he rose again, gaining victory over death so that we may have a relationship with God if we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him in the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

While camps are fabulous, ultimately lasting relationships are developed during regular school days. Good quality buildings and facilities can help to facilitate meaningful relationships. I am very pleased to share with the school community that the new Senior School building is very close to finished. I am working with Mrs Bromley, Mr Johnston and other staff to move furniture into the classrooms and rewrite the Senior School timetable so that we will be able to move in early next term.

There will be an official opening for the new building late next term or early in Term 3. Members of Parliament and other dignitaries will be invited. I would like to give parents an opportunity to see the new building, and therefore I will arrange small group tours. To help me plan these tours, I would appreciate parents completing a very quick survey (no need to leave your name) indicating that they would be interested in a tour and what time of day would best suit them. I will be in touch next term to let you know how these tours will be arranged. The College will also work on a video tour for parents who are unable to come to an on-site tour.

This is my final newsletter for the term. Dr Chalwell will contribute an article next week. I trust that all our families will have a safe, enjoyable and restful Easter break.

Are you interested in a tour of the new Senior School building?

From the Scriptures

Jesus calls you to come to Him, offering a refuge where you can find true rest

Jesus calls you to come to Him, offering a refuge where you can find true rest

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)

In moments of weariness and heavy burdens, remember the invitation from Matthew 11:28-30. Jesus calls you to come to Him, offering a refuge where you can find true rest. Embrace His gentle and humble spirit, and allow Him to lighten your load. As you take on His yoke, you’ll discover not only relief but also a renewed strength and peace for your soul. Trust in His promise that His burdens are easy and light; lean on Him, and you will find the rest you seek. You are never alone in your struggles; let His love guide you.

Our talented Year 11 & 12 students had an inspiring trip to the SHAPE Exhibition

Exploring the best of Design & Technology and Industrial Technology, our Year 11 and 12 students got up close with top HSC projects from across NSW. From innovative product designs to cutting-edge engineering solutions, our students gained valuable insights into creativity, problem-solving, and industry trends.

A huge thank you to the organisers for showcasing such incredible work—our students are now more motivated than ever to push the boundaries in their own projects!

Congratulations to our Junior School Term 1 Celebration Assembly award recipients

Congratulations to our Junior School Term 1 Celebration Assembly award recipients

Our recent Celebration Assembly was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the effort, diligence and hard work of our students. Awards recognising students’ commitment to learning were presented across various areas, including Christian Education Engagement, the College values, Sport and History.

A special Community Award was also presented to Lily S for demonstrating the College values towards a young student, reinforcing the importance of showing compassion and integrity, even when no one is watching.

It was fantastic to welcome so many parents to the assembly, allowing us to come together as a whole school community. The Junior School Leaders did an excellent job of leading the assembly, and the occasion was further enriched by a special performance from the Stage 2 Choir, the Performance Band and two students, Tavish and Aarin, who shared their poetry.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all who contributed to this event and congratulate all our students on their achievements, dedication and the character they have displayed throughout the term.

HZSA Triathlon

Last Friday, our College attended the HZSA Triathlon at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Castlereagh, where we also had some of our Senior School students competing. This was a wonderful day watching our Junior School students cheer on their Senior School peers!

We entered 5 Stage 3 teams, with each member completing a different leg of the race: a 200m swim, a 5km bike ride, and a 2km run. Mitchell G completed the course in the individual race. There were also 11 Stage 2 teams who competed in the duathlon, running 1.5km and bike riding 3km. Every competitor did an amazing job, and it was fantastic to see the students try something new and push themselves to new levels.

Congratulations to Evie I and Evie M for placing 2nd in the Stage 2 duathlon.

We also had Harper P, Amelia L and Charlotte G place 3rd in the Stage 3 triathlon.

Year 6 excursion to Australia's capital

Year 6 excursion to Australia's capital

Our Year 6 students recently returned from our excursion to Canberra, an experience that mixed the joys of a mega-sleepover with challenging learning experiences. In particular, our understanding the complexities of Australian democracy, governance, and civic responsibilities was developed. The camp challenged us to take on new responsibilities while creating opportunities for fun and deeper connections with friends and teachers. It strengthened friendships, built maturity, and left us with lasting memories.

Getting the lay of the land, Year 6 started our visit with a walk around Lake Burley Griffin, providing a stunning view of the city’s carefully designed layout in the sunshine. A visit to the National Capital Exhibition followed, and we traced the story of Canberra’s establishment as the capital city. This experience reinforced our learning about Marion and Walter Burley Griffin’s vision.

Parliament House was the highlight of the trip. Walking through its halls, students explored the House of Representatives and the Senate. The opportunity to observe these spaces deepened their understanding of the nation’s legislative process. The building’s history and political significance was impressive, especially as the corridors were abuzz with politicians and journalists present for sitting week.

A mock parliament session added anticipation, as students vied to take the prestigious positions of Prime Minister and Opposition leader, then using their public speaking skills to win the debate. Students, divided into government and opposition groups, debated the issue of free public transport. Their confidence shone as they presented arguments and engaged in parliamentary procedures. They received many compliments throughout the day for their knowledge of the government processes.

As we met Hon Michelle Rowland MP, the Member for Greenway, she explained her role as Minister for Communications, outlining the responsibilities involved in overseeing national media. Some students, amused by her connection to the ABC, nicknamed her the "Minister for Bluey." As we exited Parliament House, the Prime Minister announced the 2025 federal election, making the experience even more relevant.

The visit to the Australian Electoral Commission challenged our thinking skills. Students explored the significance of voting, gaining firsthand insight into the electoral process. A practical demonstration of preferential voting brought the concept to life. Then we entered the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, where students donned white gloves to step back in time to enjoy the rich history of Australia’s political past in the heritage-listed building. Interactive exhibits and historical artifacts brought to life learning, allowing students to sit in the old chambers and experience the setting where leaders once governed.

The Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre was on the evening itinerary, where the hands-on science exhibits did not disappoint. The highlight of the visit was the "Q Lab," where students had the opportunity to participate in live science experiments. Led by enthusiastic tour guides, explosive live experiments captivated us, inspiring the students to ask questions.

Beyond learning about government, the camp encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones. Living away from home built resilience, strengthened friendships, created lasting memories. We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Australian Government through the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program, which contributed $30 per student to help make this experience possible.

Preparing for holiday reading and Premier's Reading Challenge

All students in Years K-6 are well on their way to completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Each week in library lessons, students spend a portion of the time reading and recording their books on the website. This can also be done at home (Years 3-6 only, K-2 is completed by Mrs Darwall at school). Student login details are in their diaries. As we prepare for the holiday time, working on completing the challenge could be something you would like to encourage your child/ren to do in their quite times. Students will be able to borrow up to three library books for the holiday, and of course can visit their local library, but there is also another way to read books for free.

SORA Book Reading App

Below are the details for the SORA reading app previously mentioned in the newsletters.

This week, many students have shared their exciting holiday plans with me and as an avid reader myself, I know just how cumbersome it can be to take enough physical books when travelling, and even though I am definitely a paper book fan, there is a place for digital reading as it can assist with this problem.

The app has a large range of both audio and ebooks. We have set the app to only allow appropriate texts for PreK-6 for our students to use. The app works on a borrowing system much like borrowing the physical book. After borrowing, students have access to the book for a period of 2 weeks at which time they can renew for longer if no-one else has it on reserve.

If parents are unsure if a book their child would like to read is at an appropriate content level, they can check if it is available on SORA, if it is not, there is a good chance the book is not suitable for younger readers.

Each book on SORA has an information section that includes recommended age.

To log in, students need their school email address and password. You can log in via the web or download the free app to your device.

SORA is an award-winning digital reading app that empowers K-12 students to discover age-appropriate ebooks, audiobooks and more from their school library. Backed by the largest, most diverse catalogue of digital books available to schools, Sora provides students with access to curriculum titles and leisure reading. The app is available to download to your device and with the student school email address and password, our students are able to use the app for free.

Overdue Books

We have a small number of very overdue books, when these books are not returned or we are notified that they are lost an account is generated for the replacement cost of the book (plus and admin fee). We regularly send reminders to try to assist parents to avoid this happening, but understand that sometimes books go missing.

Changes to Music Ensembles

To accommodate the significant growth in our music program over the past few years, we have restructured some of our ensembles:

  • JS Choir , previously for Years 3-6, has now been divided into two stage-based groups:
    • Stage 2 Choir (Years 3-4) will rehearse with Mrs Watson on Tuesday mornings
    • Stage 3 Choir (Years 5-6) will rehearse with Mrs Morris Wednesday mornings
  • String Ensemble was divided into two groups last year. We have renamed these groups to help distinguish between them:
    • Dolce Strings (Years 1-3) will rehearse with Ms Murphy on Tuesday mornings in the K Space/Library
    • Vivace Strings (Years 4-6) will rehearse with Ms Sawyer on Thursday mornings in the Drama Space (next to the TLC)

These changes will allow our conductors to better cater for the musical needs of all students in these ensembles and provide more opportunities for them to perform at College and external events.

The above change to the choirs means that for now there will not be a distinct auditioned ‘Cantabile’ choir. We will proceed with the arrangements above for Terms 1 and 2. I plan to reassess this change based on feedback from our conductors, students and parents and the availability of staff and rehearsals spaces in through the course of the year.

Unless you have notified us otherwise, students who participated in an ensemble last year will be automatically re-enrolled. If your child is not continuing in an ensemble this year, please email Mr Tyler Barnes ( [email protected] ) as soon as possible to update our records and avoid being charged an ensemble fee.

A reminder that punctuality and consistent attendance are essential to the success of our ensembles. If a student is unable to attend a rehearsal, please notify the ensemble conductor in advance.

Private Music Lessons

For families interested in private tuition, further details and application forms can be found in the Private Music Tuition Brochure or contact Mrs Neralie Want ( [email protected] ).

Ensemble Fees

The ensemble fee structure for 2025 remains the same:

  • $75.00 per student per semester ($37.50 per term), regardless of the number of ensembles joined.
  • Sibling discount: $50.00 per child per semester ($25.00 per term) for the second and subsequent children.
  • The Stage 1 Choir is exempt from ensemble fees.

These fees help cover the costs of external conductors, accompanists, new repertoire, and performance opportunities.

We are looking forward to another exciting year of music at the College and appreciate your ongoing support in fostering a vibrant and enriching music program.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We look forward to a wonderful year of music-making!

Do you want to improve your child' s results and their understanding of their coursework? If so, this is a great opportunity to receive guided advice and support.

Faculties in the Senior School conduct weekly opt-in study and support sessions for students to attend as they require.

Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to access subject teachers and support and assistance for work or assessments that are currently completing.

Students do not need to book a place but should arrive to the listed rooms at the times included in the timetable below.

Senior School sports nominations

Senior School sports nominations

Once the nomination has been completed and accepted, further information about the trial will be sent to students and their nominated parent email address.

In addition to the weekly updates, Senior School students have been emailed a calendar outlining all the representative sporting opportunities for Term 1.

Please note, students who nominate to trial for these teams should have extensive playing experience and in the case of AICES and CIS trials, students should be playing in a representative team outside of school at an association or state level. Some sports, such as cricket, require students to be involved in certain representative teams or academies for nominations to be accepted.

Nomination Guidelines

  1. All nominations should come from the student interested in trialling.
  2. Students MUST email all nominations to the Head of Student Opportunities AT LEAST 2 days before the nomination date. Late nominations will not be accepted. Students who do not nominate will be turned away from any trial they attend.

If you can sew and would be prepared to offer your assistance either at a ‘sewing bee’ at school, or at your convenience in your own home, please click on the link below or send an email to [email protected] with the subject headline Sewing for Mary Poppins .

RHAC P&F Association

Welcome new P&F Committee Members & Thank You from Mr Matt Perry

Welcome new P&F Committee Members & Thank You from Mr Matt Perry

A sincere thank you to everyone who attended the P&F Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 25th March. As is customary at these meetings, we farewell members of the P&F Executive Team who are ending their tenure with the P&F, or who are stepping down from formal roles to make way for new people to join. We also have the opportunity to share with the community the outcomes of the last years activities, and the focuses for the year ahead for the P&F aligned to our core purpose of community, connection, and contribution.

2024 marked my 4th and final year as President of the P&F Executive Committee, and my 5th year involved with the P&F. I am eternally gratefully for the trust bestowed upon me to lead the P&F over the past 4 years. It has been fulfilling and rewarding on a personal level but also such a fantastic opportunity to connect with the College on a much deeper level whilst making lifelong friends with other members of the committee. I am thankful to Mr. Hartley for his support of the P&F and to allowing us to exist in a harmonious and autonomous way, whilst enabling us to build community, contribution and connection.

2024 was a record year for us in all areas of our purpose.

  • Community: we continued to grow an active P&F community, providing many service events for parents, children and friends to get involved with the College
  • Connection: we had record numbers of volunteers engaged with the P&F events, most notably with our 2024 Spring Fair attracting over 200+ volunteers alone in the one day. This leads to creating lasting moments and new relationships.
  • Contribution: we were very fortunate to pledge over $95,000 toward making improvements to the College life of our children and students.

Contribution comes in many forms and, on behalf of everyone on the P&F Committee, we are so thankful for the contributions of our parent body during 2024 which culminated in a monumental pledge at presentation day of $50,000, bringing our total pledges for 2024 to just over $95,000. Every dollar raised by the P&F goes back to the College and improving the experience of our children.

In stepping down from the role of P&F President, I was equally excited to be able to welcome Sneha Pandey as our President for her first term of 2025. Sneha has been involved with our P&F Executive Committee for 3 years and has been a wonderful supporter of the College. I look forward to continuing to serve the Executive Committee under Sneha's leadership. The Executive Committee consists of a number of volunteers that commit to helping shape the P&F direction and regular involvement. There are four official positions, and the 2025 lineup is as follows:

Role Member
President Sneha Pandey
Vice-President Casey De Souza
Secretary Danielle Dobson
Treasurer Kaveesh Ralhan

Thank you to those existing Executive Committee Members continuing on the Committee for 2025:

  • Josh Kerfoot
  • Lara Graham
  • Matt Perry
  • Renee Coffill
  • Richard Palmer
  • Shane Hewitt
  • Sharon D’Agostino
  • Sushmitha Karnati
  • Taranjeet Singh

We also welcome several new Executive Committee Members for 2025 and thank them in advance for their commitment and service:

  • Adithi Nagarjuna
  • Alycia Shedden
  • Evelyn McLeod
  • Jenna Maltman
  • Jess Osborne
  • Karishma Hugo
  • Lisa Rohanek
  • Mrunmayee Dash
  • Nishit Mehta
  • Natalie Reynolds
  • Tanya Rudman

As I clock off for my last newsletter, thank you for all the relationships I've made over the years as President and thank you to all of the committee past and present for their contributions, without you we'd not have achieved so much during this time.

With gratitude,
Matt Perry
