Along with several dedicated staff members, I spent the weekend before last at the Hills Schools Expo at Castle Hill RSL. We spoke to several hundred prospective parents over the two days, many of whom said they are keen for their child to come to RHAC because a current RHAC family spoke highly of the school. It is encouraging to hear that our existing parents and students speak well of the College to others. Thank you.

A message from Principal Hartley
A message from Principal Hartley
One question that potential future parents asked numerous times was whether we were only an academic school, or if we also promoted values, sport, music and extra-curricular activities. While I am thankful that people in the broader community recognise our commitment to academic achievement, I emphasised that we are holistic.
The College values Character, Care and Courage through Christ are taken seriously. Our teachers teach, direct and encourage students to make these values a reality in their daily lives. The College is committed to working with parents/carers to help ensure that children understand themselves and others, and know how to relate well to people who are unlike them. Passages from the Bible in Christian studies lessons help students to understand God’s will and how to live rightly.
RHAC is committed to sport and creative and performing arts. We have several highly performing young sports women and men and some award winning artists.
To help promote sport at RHAC, I recently interviewed our Junior School sport coordinator, Mrs Wendy Strong .
- Why do you think it is valuable for students to participate in sport at school?
I love that students have the opportunity to play sport and represent the College. I have the fondest memories from both Junior and Senior School of my participation in school sport. I think it is important for students to have an outlet through sport. It’s great to see them try new things, work in a team environment and learn life lessons through sport.
Sport requires students to think critically, make decisions quickly and make moral judgments under pressure. Research suggests that playing sport is beneficial for mental health.
- Does sport at RHAC help to build a sense of community?
A really big win I have seen for Sport is the Senior School students who excel when placed in an environment to help with the Junior School. We have PASS students who help at our swimming and athletics carnivals. We also have students who act as referees at HZSA afternoon sport.
- What competition sport is available for Junior School students at RHAC?
Junior School competes in the HZSA afternoon sport competition each semester and gala days are held throughout the year. Students are able to try out to represent the College in football, netball, touch football, basketball, red ball tennis and newly introduced this year, flagball. Students also have the opportunity to trial for selection into HZSA (Regional) teams and CIS (State).
- When can Junior School students first try out for a competition sport i.e. at what age?
Our Years 3-6 students are able to tryout to represent RHAC at the HZSA afternoon sport competitions. However, students representing HZSA or CIS are most likely to be Years 5-6 students only. I often send Year 5 students to trials so they are prepared for it when they are in Year 6, when they are most likely to make the team. At our swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals, there is an 8 year old age group so we invite students in Year 2 to attend if they are turning 8.
-
When does competition sport occur at RHAC?
- HZSA afternoon sport: Stage 3 Wednesday’s and Stage 2 Friday’s for 10 weeks in semester 1 and 2. Games start at 1:15pm.
-
Gala Days throughout the year:
- Term 1- Touch Football, Football, Netball, HZSA + CIS Swimming
- Term 2 – HZSA + CIS Cross Country
- Term 3- Flag Ball, Red Ball Tennis, HZSA + CIS Athletics
- Term 4 – Triathlon (not in 2024)
As we approach Easter, where Christians recognise the Lord Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead three days later to gain victory over death, I trust that all RHAC families will have the opportunity to reflect on the Easter message and enjoy the company of those close to them.
From the Scriptures
Easter reflection
Easter reflection
A pastor of Calvary Baptist Church (an African American church) named S.M. Lockridge, in one of his sermons at Easter spoke these words:
“It’s Friday - Jesus is praying - Peter’s a sleeping - Judas is betraying - But Sunday’s coming.
It’s Friday - Pilate’s struggling - The council is conspiring - The crowd is vilifying - They don’t even know - That Sunday’s coming.
It’s Friday - The disciples are running like sheep without a shepherd - Mary’s crying - Peter is denying - but they don’t know - That Sunday’s a coming.
It’s Friday - The Romans beat my Jesus - They robe Him in scarlet - They crown Him with thorns - But they don’t know - That Sunday’s coming.
It’s Friday - See Jesus walking to Calvary - His blood dripping - His body stumbling - And His spirit’s burdened - But you see, it’s only Friday - Sunday’s coming.
It’s Friday - The world’s winning - People are sinning - And evil’s grinning.
It’s Friday - The soldiers nail my Saviour’s hands to the cross - They nail my Saviour’s feet to the cross - And then they raise him up- Next to criminals.
It’s Friday - But let me tell you something, Sunday’s coming.
It’s Friday - The disciples are questioning - What has happened to their King - And the Pharisees are celebrating - That their scheming has been achieved - But they don’t know - It’s only Friday - Sunday’s coming’
It’s Friday - He’s hanging on the cross - Feeling forsaken by His Father - Left alone and dying - Can nobody save Him?
It’s Friday - But Sunday’s coming
It’s Friday - The earth trembles - The sky grows dark - My King yields His spirit.
It’s Friday - Hope is lost - Death has won - Sin has conquered - and Satan’s just a laughing
It’s Friday - Jesus is buried - A soldier stands guard - And a rock is rolled into place - But it’s Friday - It is only Friday.”
Sunday is a coming"
As we reflect upon Easter this Friday, Romans 5 reminds us
6
… at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
8
God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
To quote Billy Graham “The cross shows us the seriousness of our sin. It is from the cross that God declares ‘I love you’.”
But the story does not just end there Sunday is a coming!
Until next week. God bless.

K-2 Fun Run
Last Friday 22nd March, we held the annual K-2 Fun Run and what a beautiful day it turned out to be! It was so wonderful to see the students filled to the brim with enthusiasm. I know the they were so excited to have their parents, grandparents and friends come along to watch and cheer them along the track.
Thank you to our amazing Year 6 Student Leaders for helping direct the students along the course and making sure every student crossed the finish line. It is always exciting to see the parents race each other, shout out to all the teachers who joined in the race. A special mention must go to Mr Hartley who ran in all but one of the events because the Year 2 girls were just too fast for him to catch at the start line.
It was a wonderful to see our College community come together and make the day so special for our students. Thank you to our parent helpers at the finish line Mr Hewitt, Mrs Llamas and Mrs Thakur. Congratulations to the following students who finished first, second and third in their race.

Library News
In this week's Junior School library news: Scholastic book orders, Premier's Reading Challenge, and call for volunteers for book covering.
Scholastic Book Orders
All classes have now received the latest brochure. Orders for this edition closed yesterday, Wednesday 27th March. A new magazine will come out in a few weeks, so if you missed this one look out for the new edition soon!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Easter long weekend is a wonderful time for some rest, reflection and of course reading. Please encourage you children to enjoy some reading time and to write down in their diary or log into the PRC site to record books read.
Book Covering
Library staff have been busy preparing many new books for our students, as part of this process each new book needs to be covered in contact or plastic, to protect the books allowing them to last longer in the hands of the many students who use them. We will have some books ready for covering before the school term break, so if you have some free time we would love your assistance with this task.
Harmony Day 2024 - Tuesday 4 June
Harmony Day 2024 - Tuesday 4 June
Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, diversity, respect and belonging for all, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core values. It's a great way to celebrate the richness of culture and life experience we all bring, and the joy of being united under a loving God, that has made us all in His image.
With a calendar full of opportunities for parents to join in activities at school in Term 1, the Junior School will be celebrating Harmony Day on Tuesday, 4th June (Term 2, Week 6) .
Last year, our students participated in parent-led activities from Greece, Russia, India and Fiji. It would be wonderful to have more activities from a range of cultural backgrounds to help our students understand more about the diverse backgrounds in our Junior School.
If you would like to teach or lead a cultural activity, either by yourself or with a group of parents from the College community, please click the link below to fill out a short form by Tuesday, 14th May (Term 2, Week 3). After you have filled in this form, we will send you a document regarding volunteering at the school.
Please note that the activities will run for about 10 -15 minutes (10 minutes for K-2; 15 minutes for Years 3-6).
Some ideas:
- arts and crafts
- dance
- musical performance
- showing and explaining different cultural items
- story reading (bilingual books)
- games from around the world
- share information about culture
- teach words/phrases (eg. hello, goodbye, numbers and basic conversation)
Thank you for your consideration of leading a cultural activity and/or performing in our Junior School Harmony Day event.

Junior School Music Ensembles 2024
Please find below information regarding ensemble rehearsals, timetable, audition information for Cantabile and Percussion Ensemble, ensemble fees, and Private Music Lessons.
Ensemble timetable
The ensemble timetable, as well as information on each of the ensemble, can be found by following the link below.
Please note that anyone who is participating in our instrumental ensembles (not Choir), they are expected to have private music lessons in or outside of the College.
Private Music Lessons
All Private Music lessons have commended this week and I would like to thank our students, parents and tutors, as it took a little while for our new students and tutors had to navigate their way to their first lesson. If you have signed up to have lessons, you should have been contacted by your tutor sometime this week with the lesson times. Please let Mrs Neralie Want know if you have not heard from your tutor [email protected]
Also, we are currently dealing with a large number of applications so if you have sent your applications in the last week or so, there will be some delay in our response. We apologise for this delay and will get back to you as soon as possible. Please contact Mrs Want if you have not heard back from us by the end of this week. If you would like to sign up for private music lessons, please read the information on Private Music Tuition Brochure which includes the application form.
Also, you should have received your instrument if you have applied to hire an instrument.
Again, if you have any questions or issues with this, please contact Mrs Neralie Want [email protected]
Ensemble Fees
We will be running over 20 ensembles at the College again this year. To cover some of the cost of hiring external conductors, accompanists, new music, performance events and other related costs, students will be subject to ensemble fees. The fees will be added to the school account and will be charged twice per year. This will occur at the end of Term 1 and end of Term 2.
It is important to note that the fee structure is set at $75.00 per student per semester, equating to $37.50 per term. This fixed rate remains consistent irrespective of the number of ensembles a student chooses to participate in. Our intention behind this approach is to encourage students to engage in multiple ensembles.
For families that have more than one child participating in ensembles, the sibling discount will apply for second child and any subsequent children, at a rate of $50.00 per child, per semester ($25.00 per term).
These charges apply to all students participating in instrumental and vocal ensembles, with the exception of the Stage 1 Choir.
Thank you and I look forward to a wonderful year of music making with your children this year.

Year 7, 2026 enrolment applications
Year 7, 2026 enrolment applications
Mr Hartley has started assessing applications from students who would like to join RHAC in Year 7 in 2026 .
If some of our existing families have a child currently in Year 5 at another school and would like that child to come to RHAC from Year 7, they should submit their application no later than the end of this term . While the College does try and keep families together, having a sibling who is already at RHAC is not a guarantee of an enrolment offer.
Parents/carers are welcome to contact me, or my colleague Liz Harwood, if they have any questions about the status of their application. Please write to [email protected]
Students who already in Year 5 at RHAC do not need to apply; they are guaranteed entry into Year 7.

We need your support - RHAC Community Hills Relay for Life
Unlike other fundraisers, all proceeds raised for the Hills Relay for Life go directly to programs run by Cancer Council NSW in services for patients, carers and families of those affected by cancer. This includes transport services, counselling, treatment support and, in some cases financial support.
What a great way to serve the community, and to have a lot of fun in the process. For those who have not yet had the privilege of participating in a Relay, there is no need to be on site for the whole 24 hour period, or any need to actually run. The aim is to raise money and to support our community. There will be entertainment throughout the whole event, food stalls, activities and an opportunity to camp overnight if you are so inclined. If you are a survivor or carer, we particularly like to acknowledge you and your achievements with a dedicated first lap of the day and morning tea. Please join us.
The battle against cancer is a cause of immense significance, and this event plays a pivotal role in raising crucial funds to support the Cancer Council in its mission to fund research, offer patient support, and provide carer information, and counselling services, among other essential initiatives. In 2023, our dedicated Hills community contributed over $300,000 to this important cause.
We are looking forward to welcoming new team members showing supporting for our friends and family. This year we are going in harder and finishing stronger!
Stay tuned for our updates.

RHAC P&F
RHAC P&F
The P&F exists to foster community, connection and contribution amongst College families, and the broader College community. We exist to generate a sense of community involvement amongst the College and to contribute back to the College through social activities, community events and fundraisers.
This is a big year for the P&F with our biennial Spring Fair. As the saying goes: many hands make light work. If you’ve been considering how you can get involved, this is your opportunity. All parents/carers are welcome to attend, regardless of your involvement in the committee.
This year, we're excited to announce the Spring Fair, a major fundraising event in the 2024 calendar. We welcome your support in planning and participating throughout the year as many hands make light work. Businesses interested in sponsorship or supplying goods or services are encouraged to reach out.
Family Support Meals
From time to time, fellow families at the College are hit by unforeseen stresses (physical, emotional, financial, etc.). The RHAC P&F, through your support, facilitates a way for those families to access quality meals in their time of need to simply ease a bit of the pain during difficult times.
You can help by donating a store-bought meal, or by donating as little as $10 by clicking the link below which would be greatly appreciated. If you can provide a store-bought meal for the freezer, slices / banana breads / muffins (lunch box fillers) and desserts are also most welcome and may be dropped off with Mrs Sharon D’Agostino at the College main reception.
