Partnership with Parents

Partnership with Parents

Next week, our students in Years 7-10 will attend a camp from Wednesday to Friday. This time away gives the Year Group a chance to connect with one another outside of the usual school context. There are activities designed to develop students’ problem-solving skills, physical movement, communication skills and increase a sense of joy and engagement with their peers.

We are so grateful to our teaching staff who are giving up time with their families and friends to provide these opportunities for our students.

Years 11 and 12 will undertake assessments in this three day period. They will have access to a supervised study room before, after, and in-between their exams.

How can parents work in partnership with staff in relation to camp?

  • Have positive and encouraging conversations with children; especially those who may be anxious about being away
  • Share past experiences to reassure children about things that are out of routine
  • Ensure that the Packing List has been read and all essentials are prepared
  • Read all communication from the College and follow directions regarding drop off and pick up carefully
  • Organise the necessary information and medications for our First Aid staff

How can parents work in partnership with staff in relation to the assessment block?

  • Encourage your children to read their Assessment Schedule carefully (this will have been sent by our Head of Curriculum, Mr Johnston) and plan accordingly
  • Support healthy study habits in the lead up to the assessment period
  • Ensure you and your children are familiar with the Assessment Policy in terms of Illness and Misadventure processes

We look forward to hearing all of the stories from our camps and seeing student achievement from our Year 11 and 12 students.

Assembly and Chapel

This term we have been greatly encouraged by our students who have been involved in leading and/or participating in our Senior School assemblies and Chapel. Students from Years 7-12 have read the Bible, prayed for their peers and the community, performed musical pieces, presented community news and promoted positive culture within the College.

Many students have already been recognised for their contributions to the College and we had 18 recipients of College Values Distinction awards this term, as well as celebrating the effort and achievements of students in their academic courses.

As we continue to focus on Relational Teaching , we will be talking at our assemblies and Chapel about RESPECT for ourselves, for the environment and for others.

We give thanks to God, through whom all things are possible. We appreciate the wide range of unique gifts that have been given to our staff and students, and give thanks that they are able to share these with the community, to honour Him.

If you pray, please offer your prayers for the events of next week.

Have a lovely week.

Respect: Building harmony at school and beyond

Respect: Building harmony at school and beyond

There is a set of classroom rules displayed in one our classrooms that caught my attention this week. At the top of the poster is a quote from Luke’s gospel in the Bible: “Do to others as you would have them do to you” ( Luke 6:31)

The first main heading is “Show Respect” and the poster provides examples of ways we can do to, or treat, others. It continues with three targets of students’ respect:

  • For yourself
  • To others
  • For property

This reminder of showing respect to yourself, others and property is an important part of working and playing in a community. It helps us to live in harmony with one another and it recognises that each of us has worth that should be valued and nurtured. It is a very closely aligned with Jesus compelling us to “do to others as you would have them do to you”.

Show respect for yourself

It is important to encourage students to show respect for themselves.  We can do this at school and at home by guiding them to:

  • Set boundaries and learn to say no when asked to do something that they shouldn’t do.
  • Participate in activities that nurture their wellbeing, including letting them play and do things that are suitable for children while steering them away from activities that are too old for them.
  • Acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses and help them accept that everyone is different and is good at different things.
  • Take responsibility for their actions, admit when they have done or said the wrong thing and accept the consequence of this.

Show respect to others

In the Junior School, we help our students to show respect to others by having high expectations of their behaviour. We clearly teach our expectations and regularly remind students of how to behave. We use the simple acronyms of WALK, SPEAK, STEPS and STARS to guide their respectful behaviour:

One of the great ways we can help children to show respect to others is for school staff and parents/carers to model this behaviour in our own actions. The actions that parents have around the school are being noticed by children and it is important that your actions are also respectful to others. This acts as a model to children and helps to keep them safe. Please allow me to remind you of ways that you can show respect for students and their learning, and for teachers in their workplace.

Respecting the safety of children and teachers:

  • Please follow our directions in the carparks.
  • Do not drop your children off at the top level of the H Carpark or the turning circle below L Building.
  • Wait for the directions of the teacher calling names and the teacher directing traffic in the pick up zones in the K Block carpark.

Respecting the children’s learning and teachers’ workplace:

  • Do not come onto the H-J quad until 3:20pm, this includes standing outside the windows and doors of the H classrooms that run adjacent to the carpark or sitting on the tables outside the Year 6 classrooms that are next to the lift.
  • If you are coming down from the K or L block to pick up older children, please wait at the top of the stairs until 3:20pm.

Respecting the teachers’ time:

  • Please do not try to tell or ask teachers something by catching them in their classrooms before school or immediately after school as these are busy times for teachers who are responsible for many students.
  • Contact you teacher through the diary or email if you have any questions.
  • Email [email protected] if you will be picking up your child early or coming in late.

Respecting the health of children and teachers:

  • Please remember if your child has vomited, they can’t return to school for 24 hours.

Respecting the work teachers do in teaching and learning, and in student wellbeing:

  • Teachers would like to start teaching as soon as possible in the morning. Please ensure your child is at school and ready to learn before the bell rings.
  • Please remember that teachers work hard to know your child and to provide the best learning for them.
  • Please understand that teachers work collaboratively on the lessons that are taught in their grade.
  • Understand that there are at least two sides to any story, and we work hard to find out all information when making decisions about student behaviour.
  • Please help our students follow the rules at school but modelling the way you follow the rules as well.

Thank you for the way you help our students act respectfully toward each other, the staff and members of the community.

From the Scriptures

We are called to pursue a relationship with Christ

We are called to pursue a relationship with Christ

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens... He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end

Ecclesiastes 3:1-14 (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NIV)

This week in Chapel we had a guest speaker, Matt Hall, youth pastor from Rouse Hill Anglican Church share a message about where is meaning found. In the book of Ecclesiastes, we find the profound truth that God has placed eternity in our hearts. This means that deep within us, there is an innate longing for something beyond this temporal existence. We experience seasons of joy, sorrow, labour, and rest, but no matter the season, the desire for permanence and fulfillment remains. The writer of Ecclesiastes reflects on the cycles of life, acknowledging that while there is a time for every activity, our hearts often yearn for what lies beyond our earthly experiences.

In the New Testament, we see that this longing is ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ. John 3:16 encapsulates the very heart of the Gospel: God’s immense love for humanity led Him to give His only Son, so that we may not only exist but thrive eternally through faith in Him. In Jesus, we find the answer to our existential questions and the solution to our deepest yearning for eternal significance.

As we navigate the various seasons of life, we can remind ourselves that our longing for something greater is a divine gift. Instead of seeking fulfillment in temporary pleasures or achievements, we are called to pursue a relationship with Christ, who offers eternal hope and life. When we face challenges, we can lean on the assurance that our struggles are part of a larger narrative authored by God, leading us toward a beautiful purpose.

In daily life, this might mean prioritising time in prayer and Scripture, nurturing our relationship with Jesus. It also invites us to look beyond our immediate circumstances and consider how we can share the hope of eternal life with others, helping them recognize their own desire for eternity. We can find comfort in knowing that while we live in a world filled with change and uncertainty, our identity and purpose are secure in Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever ( Hebrews 13:8).

Let us embrace the eternity set in our hearts by turning to Jesus, the source of eternal life, and let that truth transform our everyday moments into reflections of His love and grace.

K-2 Fun Run

Last Friday, we held the annual K-2 Fun Run, and what an unexpected event it turned out to be weather-wise! A big thank you to everyone who braved the rain, which began as we were on the ovals, and to the teachers who worked tirelessly to return the students to their classes. Despite the wet conditions, the students showed incredible resilience, and their enthusiasm and energy were unwavering as they competed. The students were so excited to see their parents, grandparents, and friends there to watch and cheer them on along the track.

Thank you to our amazing Year 6 Student Leaders for helping direct the students along the course and making sure every student crossed the finish line.

It was a wonderful to see our College community come together and make the day so special for our students. Thank you to our parent helpers at the finish line, Mrs Wenban and Mrs Llamas. Congratulations to the following students who finished first, second and third in their race.

We will have the Kindergarten students compete in their Fun Run on Wednesday, 2nd April at 9:20am. An information note will be communicated to Kindergarten families soon.

Changes to Music Ensembles

To accommodate the significant growth in our music program over the past few years, we have restructured some of our ensembles:

  • JS Choir , previously for Years 3-6, has now been divided into two stage-based groups:
    • Stage 2 Choir (Years 3-4) will rehearse with Mrs Watson on Tuesday mornings
    • Stage 3 Choir (Years 5-6) will rehearse with Mrs Morris Wednesday mornings
  • String Ensemble was divided into two groups last year. We have renamed these groups to help distinguish between them:
    • Dolce Strings (Years 1-3) will rehearse with Ms Murphy on Tuesday mornings in the K Space/Library
    • Vivace Strings (Years 4-6) will rehearse with Ms Sawyer on Thursday mornings in the Drama Space (next to the TLC)

These changes will allow our conductors to better cater for the musical needs of all students in these ensembles and provide more opportunities for them to perform at College and external events.

The above change to the choirs means that for now there will not be a distinct auditioned ‘Cantabile’ choir. We will proceed with the arrangements above for Terms 1 and 2. I plan to reassess this change based on feedback from our conductors, students and parents and the availability of staff and rehearsals spaces in through the course of the year.

Re-Enrolment and Attendance

Unless you have notified us otherwise, students who participated in an ensemble last year will be automatically re-enrolled. If your child is not continuing in an ensemble this year, please email Mr Tyler Barnes ( [email protected] ) as soon as possible to update our records and avoid being charged an ensemble fee.

A reminder that punctuality and consistent attendance are essential to the success of our ensembles. If a student is unable to attend a rehearsal, please notify the ensemble conductor in advance.

Private Music Lessons

For families interested in private tuition, further details and application forms can be found in the Private Music Tuition Brochure or contact Mrs Neralie Want ( [email protected] ).

Ensemble Fees

The ensemble fee structure for 2025 remains the same:

  • $75.00 per student per semester ($37.50 per term), regardless of the number of ensembles joined.
  • Sibling discount: $50.00 per child per semester ($25.00 per term) for the second and subsequent children.
  • The Stage 1 Choir is exempt from ensemble fees.

These fees help cover the costs of external conductors, accompanists, new repertoire, and performance opportunities.

We are looking forward to another exciting year of music at the College and appreciate your ongoing support in fostering a vibrant and enriching music program.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Once the nomination has been completed and accepted, further information about the trial will be sent to students and their nominated parent email address.

In addition to the weekly updates, Senior School students have been emailed a calendar outlining all the representative sporting opportunities for Term 1.

Please note, students who nominate to trial for these teams should have extensive playing experience and in the case of AICES and CIS trials, students should be playing in a representative team outside of school at an association or state level. Some sports, such as cricket, require students to be involved in certain representative teams or academies for nominations to be accepted.

Nomination Guidelines

  1. All nominations should come from the student interested in trialling.
  2. Students MUST email all nominations to the Head of Student Opportunities AT LEAST 2 days before the nomination date. Late nominations will not be accepted. Students who do not nominate will be turned away from any trial they attend.
