I must confess that I find writing the end of year newsletter challenging, not because I don’t know what to write, but rather because I don’t know what to leave out!
RHAC is a busy, diverse community educating children as young as 3 through to 18-year-olds. In the past, Australians viewed education as ‘The Three Rs’ – reading, writing and arithmetic (it is ironic that only one of these three words starts with the letter R). However, over time, education has become more involved.
RHAC believes in the intention behind The Three Rs. We are committed to teaching our students to read increasingly complex literature, express themselves clearly and accurately in writing and develop their mathematical skills. However, our teachers also teach students to develop what are known as higher-order skills such as the ability to analyse, evaluate and create.
In addition to developing these intellectual skills, RHAC has been committed throughout the year to:
- developing student creativity
- advancing a student's physical development
- promoting the spiritual, social and emotional development of students
Teaching students to be creative involves fostering their sense of imagination, invention and originality. Some students express their creativity quietly through a piece of imaginative writing or an artwork that a 5 year old brings home and is put on the fridge with a magnet. Others perform their creativity to an audience. I’m very thankful for the opportunities our students have had recently through various music and dance showcases and of course Shrek the musical earlier in the year.
