From our Acting Principal

Reflecting on a Wonderful Term 3 and Term 4 time off

Reflecting on a Wonderful Term 3 and Term 4 time off

Term 3 has been a wonderful term of activities and events. Our fabulous production of Finding Nemo showcased the impressive performance skills of our Junior School students. After each of the shows, many audience members spoke glowingly of the production. I greatly appreciate the commitment parents of cast members gave to supporting their child to come to the rehearsals and perform in the shows. There were several Junior School teachers who invested a considerable amount of time and effort into making the production a success, and I thank them for all they did.

Our spring fair last Saturday was also a great success. Our P&F, so ably led by Mrs Pandey, and other parent helpers invested many hours in the lead up to the event and on the day. The P&F thought strategically about stalls, rides, food and music performances and worked with many stakeholders to make our school welcoming to people who live in Rouse Hill and Tallawong who are not connect with RHAC, as well as providing a great day for current members of our community. I also appreciate our staff who made substantial contributions to the day, particularly our Operations Coordinator, Mrs Taylor.

Next week we look forward to recognising and farewelling our current Year 12 students at their graduation service. They are a warm and united cohort who have studied hard and I wish them every success in their written exams next term. Term 3 has been particularly busy for Year 12. The HSC trial exams are rigorous because students are examined on all the work they have completed with limited time to revise. Students who produce major works have sent their work away to be marked and our music and drama students have already completed their final HSC performances in front of external markers.

Next week I will send RHAC families an email, providing them with:

  • A Term 4 calendar of events – This is a new initiative following significant parent feedback. All known events will be published, providing parents with relevant information to help them plan for the term ahead. This is a static, rather than a live, document and therefore will not be updated. Parents will be notified separately about events that were not known when the calendar was published. This calendar is a trial. A short survey will be sent to parents towards the end of the year seeking their thoughts on the value of the term calendar.
  •  An updated uniform policy – RHAC is committed to a high standard of uniform. However, I want conversations in our community to be about learning, Christian character, achievement and opportunity, not about clothing. Therefore, we will send you a new document that will provide greater clarity on what is expected. It is important to note that there are no significant changes to what is required. There is a new section in the document explaining RHAC’s position on parental requests for religious exemptions to the school’s uniform expectations.
  • A transport survey - Several RHAC staff members have worked hard to try and improve traffic flow in and around the school and consider how families can access more convenient bus services. I would greatly appreciate all RHAC families completing this survey, which will help us negotiate with bus companies to provide buses that better service your family’s needs.

Next term I will be on study leave. This is the first time in over 30 years as a teacher that I have taken a significant amount of time off during school term. I will visit many schools in the UK researching how they approach improving teacher professional practice. Mrs Bromley will do a fine job as the Acting Principal while I am away. I look forward to seeing everyone again in the final week of Term 4.

Mr Brett Hartley, Principal

From the Scriptures

Many Parts but One Community

Many Parts but One Community

"Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptised by one Spirit so as to form one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free, and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many."

1 Corinthians 12:12 to 14

As I stood at the gate welcoming families to our Spring Fair on Saturday, it was a genuine joy to see so many smiling faces and to witness the countless ways people contributed to making the day such a wonderful success. The excitement and sense of community were unmistakable. Yet what stood out most was the remarkable effort that so many individuals invested behind the scenes and throughout the day.

Reflecting on the Spring Fair has reminded me of a passage from 1 Corinthians 12, where the Apostle Paul describes the church as one body made up of many parts. Writing to the believers in Corinth, Paul reminds them that while each person has a different role and purpose, all are equally important and work together to form one unified body.

While we are a school community rather than a church congregation, I believe this same principle speaks beautifully to life at RHAC. Our community is made up of so many different people who each bring their own unique gifts and talents. This was evident at the Spring Fair, where parents, staff, students, volunteers and supporters each played their part. Though their roles varied greatly, every contribution helped create a memorable and successful day.

At times, however, both adults and children can be tempted to think that their role is not as important as someone else’s. Surrounded by people with different talents and abilities, it can be easy to compare ourselves and undervalue the contribution we make. Paul addresses this very feeling as he continues:

“15 Now if the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, ‘Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be?20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.”

1 Corinthians 12:15 to 20

What an encouragement it is to remember that God has purposefully created each of us with unique gifts and opportunities to serve. Every person has value, and every role matters.

May we continue to encourage one another and celebrate the unique gifts God has given each person at RHAC. When we are tempted to compare ourselves to others, may we remember the wisdom of God’s design: many different parts working together as one.

As we value and support each other, may we continue to build a community where every person is known, appreciated and encouraged to be all that God has created them to be. As parents and teachers, may we always encourage the students in our care to value one another deeply and to be confident in who God has made them to be, using their individual strengths and abilities to serve God and those around them.

Traffic Safety on Worcester Rd

Traffic Safety on Worcester Rd

Please remember that parents should not park on Worcester Rd, even if they are waiting in the car. Staff have observed that some parents park in a no stopping zone and wait in the car for their child in the afternoon. This is unsafe.

  • Junior School parents should pick their child up by entering through gate 5, as per our standard procedures.
  • Senior School parents can pick up their child by entering in gate 1.

Student Attendances when Unwell

Student Attendances when Unwell

There has been a recent increase in cases of respiratory illnesses in the community. If your child is unwell in any way, please do not send them to school.

We appreciate the importance of completing assessments and exams; however, students who are unwell are unlikely to perform at their best and may also risk exposing others to illness.

Please note that if your child arrives at school and their teacher is concerned that they are unwell, they will be sent to Sick Bay and parents will be contacted to collect them. This does, however, place additional pressure on the school’s medical resources, which are intended to support sickness and injuries that occur during the school day, rather than illnesses that were present before the child attended school.

For this reason, we ask that unwell students remain at home until they have recovered and do not attend school for assessments or exams and then get collected.

A reminder that students should not be sent to school with any of the following symptoms:

  • Vomiting: Students cannot attend within 24 hours of their last episode of vomiting.
  • Fever above 38°C: Students cannot attend within 24 hours of their last fever.
  • Significant coughing
  • Excessive nose blowing

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our community as healthy as possible.

New Protocol for Minor Head Injuries

  • As per the College Protocols, all students who suffer a head injury at school are assessed & parents are notified by phone.
  • Going forward parents will be notified by SMS if their child suffers a minor bump to the head.
  • Please note that this change is ONLY for minor head injuries.
  • Should there be any change to a student’s condition throughout the remainder of the school day a phone call will be made to a parent.

Afternoon Bus 2640 – Priority Boarding

Afternoon Bus 2640 – Priority Boarding

We are aware of ongoing issues with the afternoon 2640 bus and are working with the bus company to address them.

A particular issue is the number of students boarding the bus at school, as the service also stops at Rouse Hill Town Centre. There are two other bus services available within 10 minutes of the 2640 that students travelling only to Rouse Hill Town Centre can use.

From Monday, students who have a School Opal card and need to travel beyond Rouse Hill Town Centre will be able to access a School Priority Pass.

Students who require a Priority Pass should report to Student Reception so we can confirm their eligibility. Once issued, it is the student's responsibility to present the pass to the teacher on duty when boarding the bus.

Priority students will board first. Once they have boarded, the remaining spaces will be available to students travelling to Rouse Hill Town Centre. If the bus reaches capacity, no further students will be able to board.

We hope this arrangement will make the afternoon boarding process clearer and, most importantly, help ensure that students who rely on the 2640 to travel beyond Rouse Hill Town Centre can get home safely.

Thank you for your understanding and support while we work through this with the bus company.

Junior School Afternoon car pick up

Unfortunately, some parents have been driving up the driveway too early to pick up their children. This is particularly stressful for Pre-K parents who have to park and pick up their children at 3:00pm.

Please note the following times for car pick-up:

  • Pre-K parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and pick up their children from 2:50pm.
  • K-2 parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and wait for directions from staff from 3:15pm.
  • K-6 parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and wait for directions from staff from 3:25pm.

Please do not drive up the driveway before your designated time as this holds up the traffic for other parents.

RHAC staff value our students and hope that all students will stay with us until they finish Year 12. However, I appreciate that some of our parents choose to move their child to another school each year for a range of reasons. Please remember that the school requires a full term of notice of an enrolment withdrawal, or an additional term of fees will be charged. Therefore, if parents are intending to send their son or daughter to another school next year, the last day they can notify the school without being charged the additional fee is the last day of this term (Friday 25 September). However, it would help our school if you could advise the school earlier than this so that we will have more time to find another student to fill the space.

Grand Final Week

We had two teams compete in competition finals this week, with both representing the College with pride. It was a privilege to watch the commitment, resilience and passion our students displayed, and to see just how much these opportunities meant to them.

While the results did not go the same way for both teams, success in school sport is about far more than the scoreboard. The friendships formed, lessons learned and experiences shared throughout a season often have the greatest impact. One of the most rewarding aspects of school sport is seeing students from different year groups and friendship circles come together with a common goal. Our rugby team, in particular, has been a great example of this, building strong connections and a genuine team culture throughout the season.

If you have not had the opportunity to support one of our sporting teams this year, I would encourage you to do so in the future. Whether it is on the football field, rugby pitch or any other sporting arena, you will see students representing the College with character, determination and pride. The impact of sport extends well beyond the game itself, helping to shape relationships, confidence and a strong sense of belonging within our College community.

NWSRC Intermediate Rugby Final

Our Intermediate Boys Rugby team created College history this season, becoming the first team to qualify for a North West Schools Rugby Championship Grand Final.

Following a strong win in the final round and two weeks of focused preparation, the boys headed to Redfield full of confidence. An intense opening period saw the scores locked at 7–7, with both teams playing quality rugby. A try to Redfield against the run of play late in the half saw them take a narrow lead into the break.

The boys continued to work hard throughout the second half, making strong carries through the middle and creating opportunities out wide as they looked to close the gap. With ten minutes remaining, the match was still finely balanced and very much within reach.

Unfortunately, two late tries allowed Redfield to pull away and secure the championship. While the result was not the one we had hoped for, the team should be incredibly proud of their efforts. They played with determination, remained composed throughout the contest and showed great character in defeat.

Considering how much this group has grown and developed throughout the season, reaching a grand final is a remarkable achievement, and one they should celebrate. We look forward to seeing what they can achieve next year.

HZSA Open Girls Football Final

Our Open Girls Football team entered their grand final after an outstanding season, suffering just one defeat all year against the very team they would meet in the decider. Confidence was high, however, following a strong performance against the same opposition in the final round of competition the previous week.

As expected, the game began with both teams competing fiercely for possession and defending strongly. Chances were limited early on before a well-worked team goal gave us a deserved lead heading into halftime.

The girls maintained their intensity in the second half, continuing to pressure the opposition and capitalising on attacking opportunities whenever they arose. Strong defending across the field, combined with an excellent performance in goal, provided the platform for two more goals and a commanding 3–0 advantage late in the match.

Although the opposition managed to score shortly before full-time, the final whistle confirmed a well-earned 3–1 victory and the title of HZSA Champions.

Girls' football continues to go from strength to strength at the College, and this performance was another example of the talent, commitment and teamwork we have on display. As coach Ms O'Hagan said after the match, "This team is awesome!"

Congratulations, girls, on a fantastic season and a well-deserved championship.

Nationally Consistent Collection Of Data On School Students With Disability (NCCD)

Nationally Consistent Collection Of Data On School Students With Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • Year of schooling
  • Category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory, or social/emotional
  • Level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial, or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • Formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • Consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • Develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child, and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The College will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified - the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage, and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government's Privacy Policy

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal.

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the College.

Early Stage 1 Uniform Update for 2027

Early Stage 1 Uniform Update for 2027

To support our youngest students, the College will be extending the current Pre-K uniform into Kindergarten from 2027. This means that all students in Early Stage 1 will wear the same uniform, creating a simple and consistent approach across Pre-K and Kindergarten.

We have made this decision with our youngest students in mind, as the Pre-K uniform is easier for little hands to manage and is well suited to the needs of our Early Stage 1 students.

Pre-K Uniform

Please see the uniform details below:

  • Students wear a version of the College sports uniform to school each day. In Terms 1 and 4, students wear the Summer Pre-K uniform (shorts or skorts). In Terms 2 and 3, students wear the Winter Pre-K uniform (tracksuit pants and jacket), along with the Pre-K bucket hat. Students should not wear long‑sleeved shirts underneath their Pre‑K sports shirt. However, for additional warmth, they may wear the RHAC Pre-K long‑sleeved shirt, which is available from the uniform shop.
  • White RHAC branded socks.
  • Sports shoes (Velcro, not lace up).

As students move into Kindergarten in 2027, parents will also need to purchase a House shirt to add to their child’s uniform. We hope this change will make getting ready for school each day a little simpler for our youngest students and their families.

Junior School Public Speaking Competition and Year 2 Poetry Recital Competition

Junior School Public Speaking Competition and Year 2 Poetry Recital Competition

This term, our Junior School students proudly showcased their communication skills during our annual Public Speaking Competition. Taking to the stage with confidence and enthusiasm, each participant demonstrated careful preparation, thoughtful ideas and the courage to speak before an audience. The breadth of topics and the high standard of presentations made for a highly engaging and enjoyable event.

Adding to the celebration, our Year 2 Poetry Recital Competition winners entertained the audience with their wonderful performances. Their expression, creativity and enthusiasm highlighted the joy that comes from developing a love of language and literature.

We congratulate all students who participated and extend special congratulations to our grade winners and Year 2 poetry winners, whose efforts and achievements were recognised at the assembly.

Thank you to our dedicated staff for supporting students throughout the preparation process and to our families for encouraging their young speakers and performers.

We are also grateful to Mr Hartley and Dr Chalwell for generously giving their time to adjudicate the competition.

We are incredibly proud of our students for the confidence, resilience and growth they demonstrated and look forward to seeing them continue to develop their speaking and presentation skills in the years ahead.

K-2 Athletics Carnival

On Thursday, 10th September, we held our annual K-2 Athletics Carnival on the College ovals. It was fantastic to see the students putting into practice all the skills they have been learning in Sport this year. A particular highlight was the parents’ enthusiastic involvement, whether by participating in races or relays, or cheering their children on from the sidelines. The students’ excitement and the big smiles on their faces were clear signs of how much they enjoyed the day.

A special thank you goes to our Year 6 leaders and age champions, who came to support both students and teachers. They did a marvellous job connecting with the younger students and stepping up to lead.
