From our Heads of Junior & Senior School

Together, We Flourish

Together, We Flourish

One of the greatest blessings of being part of the RHAC community is seeing how the character of our students comes to life every day through the relationships and activities we share. Over the past few weeks, we have been reminded time and again that a school is far more than classrooms and buildings. It is a community of people working together to support, encourage and inspire one another.

The recent production of Finding Nemo Jr. was a wonderful example of this. While audiences enjoyed the outstanding performances on stage, the production represented countless hours of collaboration behind the scenes. Students demonstrated courage as they stepped into the spotlight, character as they committed themselves to rehearsals, and care as they supported one another throughout the process. We are also deeply grateful to the many parents, teachers from across the College and Junior School and Senior School students who gave their time and talents to help create costumes, build sets, assist with front of house and behind the scenes, and in countless other practical ways. These contributions helped bring the story to life and made a lasting impact on our students.

Community was also on display during our Father's Day celebrations. We are deeply thankful for the work of the P&F who joyfully organise and run the Junior School Father's Day stall and the breakfast.  In addition, Pre-K students enjoyed welcoming their dads and carers to a special afternoon tea. These celebrations provide wonderful opportunities for connection, laughter and shared memories. Thank you to the teachers, parents and property team who generously give their time to ensure these events run smoothly. Moments like these help strengthen the community that makes our College so special.

Our students have also continued to demonstrate courage and perseverance in a wide range of learning experiences. We congratulate our Year 11 students as they complete their Preliminary course work and commence their examinations next week. We pray for them and acknowledge the dedication they have shown in preparing for this important milestone. We also celebrate the talented performers who recently participated in the HSC Music Showcase, sharing their gifts and hard work with confidence and excellence. The Science Fair also showcased the curiosity, creativity and determination of our Year 6 students. We are proud of the enthusiasm with which they explored questions, investigated ideas and shared their learning with others.

Our Year 9 Commerce students also recently established a Market Day and successfully showcased their understanding of the curriculum by putting their learning into business practice. We are consistently impressed with how our Junior School and Senior School students take pride in their learning and demonstrate it in practical ways.

For our younger students, the K-2 Athletics Carnival was a wonderful celebration of participation, encouragement and fun. It is always encouraging to see parents actively involved, whether cheering from the sidelines or joining with students in the events. These shared experiences create memories that students will carry with them for years to come.

This week’s Year 3 and Year 4 camps provided valuable opportunities for students to grow in independence, resilience and friendship. Away from the familiarity of home, students stepped outside their comfort zones, tried new activities and supported one another through challenges. These experiences are an important part of developing both character and courage.

As we reflect on the events of Term 3, we want to sincerely thank our parents, teachers and staff for the countless ways they contribute to the life of our school. Most importantly, we recognise our students, whose attitudes, efforts and achievements continue to inspire us. As a Christian school, we are reminded that community is part of God's design for us. The writer of 1 Corinthians describes the church as one body with many parts, each contributing in unique and important ways. This picture resonates strongly with our RHAC community. Whether serving at a breakfast, sewing a costume, building a set, cheering on students at the athletics carnival, supporting learning at home, or encouraging a child through a challenge, every contribution matters. We give thanks to God for the many people who help our community flourish and pray that we would continue to grow as we seek to love and serve one another in the example of Christ.

Together, we are building a community where the developing character of our students is lived out each day. Thank you for working with us in this important work. We are grateful for the role each family plays in making RHAC such a vibrant, supportive and thriving community.

Tomorrow we have our fabulous Spring Fair at the College. We hope you have pre-purchased your ride bands, and are looking forward to seeing you all enjoying the food and each other’s company as part of the RHAC community.

Have a lovely week,

Kaye Chalwell and Leisa Bromley

From the Scriptures

Not in Wisdom, Might, or Riches

Not in Wisdom, Might, or Riches

"Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me... For in these things I delight"

Jeremiah 9:23–24, ESV

This week, our senior students heard a chapel talk built around a humbling word from Jeremiah.

It is a strange word for a school. A college exists to build wisdom, train strength and skill on the sports field, and reward achievement. Jeremiah tells us not to boast in the very things school cultivates. It is something worth sitting with, for our children and for us as parents.

The talk turned to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in Daniel 4. He had wisdom and the finest advisors of the ancient world. He had might and an empire built through conquest. He had riches. He stood on his palace roof and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built... for the glory of my majesty?” (Daniel 4:30).

That sentence was still leaving his mouth when word came from heaven that his kingdom had departed. He was driven out to live like an animal, eating grass in a field, until, Daniel tells us, he lifted his eyes to heaven, and his reason returned.

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just, and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” (Daniel 4:37)

The most powerful man in the world had to be brought low before he could say something true. God did not humble him to destroy him. He humbled him until he repented.

We want our children to grow in wisdom, strength, and provision. These are good gifts, and none of them are wrong. But it is entirely possible to gain all three and quietly place our sense of worth in them instead of finding it in God.

That danger is not only our children's. A parent's pride can attach just as easily to a child's report card, a sporting trophy, or an achievement. We can build a quiet boast out of how our children are turning out.

Nebuchadnezzar's field of grass is extreme, but the mercy in it is the point. A disappointing result, a missed team, or a difficult season in a friendship may not be God's absence. They may be exactly what Jeremiah calls us towards: an opportunity to stop boasting in what we or our children have achieved and instead to know him.

  • Where have I quietly attached my sense of security to my own or my child's wisdom or success?
  • Could a hard season right now be God's kindness rather than his silence?
  • What would it look like this week to boast in knowing him rather than in achievement?

Lord, you delight in steadfast love, justice, and righteousness. Forgive us for boasting in wisdom, strength, or achievement, whether our own or our children's. If we are in a season of humbling, give us Nebuchadnezzar's ending: eyes lifted to heaven, reason and worship restored. Let our boast rest only in knowing you.

Amen.

Traffic Safety on Worcester Rd

Traffic Safety on Worcester Rd

Please remember that parents should not park on Worcester Rd, even if they are waiting in the car. Staff have observed that some parents park in a no stopping zone and wait in the car for their child in the afternoon. This is unsafe.

  • Junior School parents should pick their child up by entering through gate 5, as per our standard procedures.
  • Senior School parents can pick up their child by entering in gate 1.

Each week these charts will be accessible directly from the newsletter

Parents may need to contact a RHAC staff member for a range of reasons, including transport issues, student wellbeing and student learning needs. The charts below help parents to know who to contact if they have a concern. The parent manual, which is accessible from a link in this newsletter, provides parents with a substantial amount of information which may assist them. The manual provides guidance on how parents and care givers can make a complaint.

The College is keen to celebrate our students' achievements. Their parents are encouraged to share positive stories about their child by writing to [email protected]

Bird Flu

Bird Flu

During the holidays, Independent Schools NSW wrote to member schools to provide guidance on the recent outbreak of bird flu. They advised Bird flu infections in humans are rare and typically occur following close contact with infected birds or contaminated environments. However, for more abundant caution, I developed a response plan in the event of someone discovering a sick, injured or dead bird on the school site.

Student Attendances when Unwell

Student Attendances when Unwell

There has been a recent increase in cases of respiratory illnesses in the community. If your child is unwell in any way, please do not send them to school.

We appreciate the importance of completing assessments and exams; however, students who are unwell are unlikely to perform at their best and may also risk exposing others to illness.

Please note that if your child arrives at school and their teacher is concerned that they are unwell, they will be sent to Sick Bay and parents will be contacted to collect them. This does, however, place additional pressure on the school’s medical resources, which are intended to support sickness and injuries that occur during the school day, rather than illnesses that were present before the child attended school.

For this reason, we ask that unwell students remain at home until they have recovered and do not attend school for assessments or exams and then get collected.

A reminder that students should not be sent to school with any of the following symptoms:

  • Vomiting: Students cannot attend within 24 hours of their last episode of vomiting.
  • Fever above 38°C: Students cannot attend within 24 hours of their last fever.
  • Significant coughing
  • Excessive nose blowing

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our community as healthy as possible.

New Protocol for Minor Head Injuries

  • As per the College Protocols, all students who suffer a head injury at school are assessed & parents are notified by phone.
  • Going forward parents will be notified by SMS if their child suffers a minor bump to the head.
  • Please note that this change is ONLY for minor head injuries.
  • Should there be any change to a student’s condition throughout the remainder of the school day a phone call will be made to a parent.

Afternoon Bus 2640 – Priority Boarding

Afternoon Bus 2640 – Priority Boarding

We are aware of ongoing issues with the afternoon 2640 bus and are working with the bus company to address them.

A particular issue is the number of students boarding the bus at school, as the service also stops at Rouse Hill Town Centre. There are two other bus services available within 10 minutes of the 2640 that students travelling only to Rouse Hill Town Centre can use.

From Monday, students who have a School Opal card and need to travel beyond Rouse Hill Town Centre will be able to access a School Priority Pass.

Students who require a Priority Pass should report to Student Reception so we can confirm their eligibility. Once issued, it is the student's responsibility to present the pass to the teacher on duty when boarding the bus.

Priority students will board first. Once they have boarded, the remaining spaces will be available to students travelling to Rouse Hill Town Centre. If the bus reaches capacity, no further students will be able to board.

We hope this arrangement will make the afternoon boarding process clearer and, most importantly, help ensure that students who rely on the 2640 to travel beyond Rouse Hill Town Centre can get home safely.

Thank you for your understanding and support while we work through this with the bus company.

Junior School Afternoon car pick up

Junior School Afternoon car pick up

Unfortunately, some parents have been driving up the driveway too early to pick up their children. This is particularly stressful for Pre-K parents who have to park and pick up their children at 3:00pm.

Please note the following times for car pick-up:

  • Pre-K parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and pick up their children from 2:50pm.
  • K-2 parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and wait for directions from staff from 3:15pm.
  • K-6 parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and wait for directions from staff from 3:25pm.

Please do not drive up the driveway before your designated time as this holds up the traffic for other parents.

  • Pre-K parents from 2:50pm
  • K-2 parents from 3:15pm
  • K-6 parents from 3:25pm

RHAC staff value our students and hope that all students will stay with us until they finish Year 12. However, I appreciate that some of our parents choose to move their child to another school each year for a range of reasons. Please remember that the school requires a full term of notice of an enrolment withdrawal, or an additional term of fees will be charged. Therefore, if parents are intending to send their son or daughter to another school next year, the last day they can notify the school without being charged the additional fee is the last day of this term (Friday 25 September). However, it would help our school if you could advise the school earlier than this so that we will have more time to find another student to fill the space.

Nationally Consistent Collection Of Data On School Students With Disability (NCCD)

Nationally Consistent Collection Of Data On School Students With Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • Year of schooling
  • Category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory, or social/emotional
  • Level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial, or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • Formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • Consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • Develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child, and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The College will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified - the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage, and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government's Privacy Policy

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal.

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the College.

Early Stage 1 Uniform Update for 2027

Early Stage 1 Uniform Update for 2027

To support our youngest students, the College will be extending the current Pre-K uniform into Kindergarten from 2027. This means that all students in Early Stage 1 will wear the same uniform, creating a simple and consistent approach across Pre-K and Kindergarten.

We have made this decision with our youngest students in mind, as the Pre-K uniform is easier for little hands to manage and is well suited to the needs of our Early Stage 1 students.

Pre-K Uniform

Please see the uniform details below:

  • Students wear a version of the College sports uniform to school each day. In Terms 1 and 4, students wear the Summer Pre-K uniform (shorts or skorts). In Terms 2 and 3, students wear the Winter Pre-K uniform (tracksuit pants and jacket), along with the Pre-K bucket hat. Students should not wear long‑sleeved shirts underneath their Pre‑K sports shirt. However, for additional warmth, they may wear the RHAC Pre-K long‑sleeved shirt, which is available from the uniform shop.
  • White RHAC branded socks.
  • Sports shoes (Velcro, not lace up).

As students move into Kindergarten in 2027, parents will also need to purchase a House shirt to add to their child’s uniform. We hope this change will make getting ready for school each day a little simpler for our youngest students and their families.

Myrah Shines at Cheercon State Championships

We are delighted to celebrate the recent achievements of Myrah, who competed at the Cheercon State Championships held on 5 and 6 September with her team from Full Force Dance & Cheer.

The two-day state championship was a fantastic opportunity for Myrah and her teammates to showcase their talent, dedication and teamwork. On Day 1, the team achieved an outstanding Gold medal in the Youth Cheerstars Prep division.

The celebrations continued on Day 2, with Myrah and her teammates securing two Silver medals in Pom and Lyrical, as well as a Bronze medal in Jazz.

It was a wonderful experience for Myrah, and we congratulate her on these fantastic results. Her hard work, commitment and dedication to her performances are a wonderful achievement, and we are proud to celebrate her success with our school community.

Junior School Library

Junior School Library

We have had a very exciting few weeks in the Library in the Junior School with Symphony of Stories, Book Week and author Tim Harris visiting.

The Children’s Book Council of Australia announced the winning books for their Book of the Year competition. To view all the winners follow this link https://cbca.org.au/2026-winners/

During Book Week students visited the Book Fair as part of their library lessons and with parents during the Celebration of Reading. We were thrilled with the response to the Fair! So many books found new homes, and we had many donations to our library collection. The Book Fair sold $8000 worth of books and the College receives a portion of the sales to purchase more fantastic books for our library collection.

We also had a “Guess how many books are in the box” competition. The winners received a book prize. Congratulations to Subir C – Year 3, Bill W Year 3, Aryan C Year 5, Marlize Kindergarten, Kavin K Year 1.

We are very grateful to Tim Harris for the enthusiastic and informative sessions he ran with our students in Years 2 through to Year 6. He is certainly a wonderful story teller, who engaged the students by sharing his journey as an author, the process of creation and idea making through to publishing. Students enjoyed meeting Tim and were thrilled to have him sign their books.

CIS Athletics Championships

Last Friday, 13 of our talented athletes proudly pulled on the green, white, and black singlets of the Hills Zone Sports Association (HZSA) to compete at the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Athletics Championships held at the iconic Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.

It was an incredible day of competition, with our students rising to the challenge of competing against some of the very best athletes from independent schools across New South Wales. They gave it their all in every event, pushing themselves to new heights and recording a number of impressive personal best performances.

A special highlight came from Elijah T (Year 6), who delivered a phenomenal performance in both Shot Put and Discus. Elijah finished with the silver medal in Discus and the bronze in Shot Put and most excitingly, a place on the CIS team to represent at the NSWPSSA Championships next term.

What a fantastic achievement – congratulations Elijah and best of luck as you take the next step on your athletics journey!
