A New Approach to Keeping Parents Informed

A New Approach to Keeping Parents Informed

Earlier this year RHAC engaged an external marketing and communications consultancy, Imageseven, to help the college better understand how parents and staff perceive our community. Imageseven’s reports provided feedback that the school executive team has been working through in recent months.

One area of feedback, which the executive team have been taking some practical steps to address, was the following comment in the imageseven report:

Parents consistently described a school where students are known personally, teachers are accessible and care is visible in day-to-day interactions. These strengths create meaningful loyalty and advocacy. However, confidence is moderated by concerns about communication clarity.

I contacted some parents to help me better understand what the concerns are around “communication clarity”. It seems that RHAC has been communicating some, although not all, event information through too many different sources and at random times e.g. some information by email, some information on Seesaw (Junior School) etc.

To address this, we will be trialling a parent Pre K to Year 12 term calendar of events in Term 4. This will contain key events for the term, particularly events where parents will be involved.

However, the calendar will not contain all events because:

  • Arrangements for some activities, particularly some sporting events, will not be known when the calendar is published.
  • Arrangements for these activities will be communicated as they have been through the Edumate app.
  • To ensure you receive important College updates and time-sensitive notifications, please download the College app and make sure push notifications are enabled in your app settings.

Some events or activities only involve a limited number of students e.g. a small Year 11 elective class going on an excursion. Including these events on the calendar would make the document enormous and may result in some parents not noticing an event of interest to them.

Parents don’t need prior notification of some events e.g. a teacher invites a guest speaker to visit a class. This could be celebrated after the event in a newsletter or on social media.

Therefore, in Term 4, events will be communicated in one of three ways:

  • On the term calendar that will be emailed to parents at the end of Term 3.
  • By Edumate and the parent portal for some events.
  • The way that excursions and sporting events have been communicated will not change. We will always try to give parents as much notice as we can for events.

For a limited number of events an email will be sent. All the necessary information about the event will either be on the calendar or Edumate. While we will continue to publish the upcoming events for the next fortnight in the newsletter, the primary sources of information will be either the calendar or Edumate. For a limited number of events, RHAC may advise parents directly by email. Seesaw will no longer be used to provide information about future events.

What won’t change - Our existing Edumate and parent portal processes remain unchanged. Parents will continue to give permission for their child to attend an event through the app, and events will continue to appear in the app calendar as usual.

Please note that the whole school calendar is only a trial in response to parent feedback. Towards the end of the year, we will ask parents to complete a short online survey about the calendar. Your feedback about this initiative will be much appreciated. If parents find the term calendar beneficial, we will continue with this approach in 2027. If parents largely support the change, but suggest helpful modifications, we will incorporate the suggested changes next year.

From the Scriptures

The God who Speaks

The God who Speaks

"Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path."

Psalm 119:105

One of the great joys of my role in Junior School is introducing our students to who God is as He reveals Himself to us through His Word, the Bible. From time to time, students ask why we always read the Bible together. These questions often lead to wonderful conversations about the fact that God is not distant or unknowable. Instead, He has lovingly revealed Himself to us through His Word.

In a world filled with uncertainty and confusion, pointing our children towards the God who created them and loves them gives them a foundation of certainty, hope and truth. Teaching children to read the Bible is teaching them how to know God as He has revealed Himself. God is a God who speaks.

This term in Junior School Chapel, we are exploring the story of Jonah, a prophet from the Old Testament whose life continues to teach us important lessons about God, others and ourselves. Last week, we looked at how God called Jonah to go to Nineveh, a city filled with people who neither knew nor loved God and who were enemies of both God and His people. Jonah heard God's command but chose to run in the opposite direction, boarding a ship in an attempt to escape.

As the story unfolds, we discover that Jonah's reluctance came from his understanding of God's character. Jonah knew that God is compassionate and gracious and feared that God might show mercy to the people of Nineveh. Although God spoke clearly to Jonah, he chose not to listen or obey.

Like Jonah, we can sometimes find God's Word challenging because it reveals the condition of our own hearts. Through His Word, God shapes us, changes us and humbles us as He lovingly draws us closer to Himself. At times, we may be tempted to turn away, just as Jonah did. Yet we can take great comfort in knowing that God is compassionate and gracious, and that His Word guides us every step of the way.

As Psalm 119:105 reminds us,

"Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path."

The writer of Hebrews also reminds us that God is a God who speaks. Throughout history, God spoke to His people in many different ways through the prophets. Ultimately, however, He has spoken to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 1:1 to 3 says:

"In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

As we continue teaching our children about the world they live in and the God who created and loves them, may we remind them that He is neither distant nor silent. He is the God who speaks. May we continually point them to Jesus, the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being. And may we all be people who hear His Word with hearts that are ready to listen.

Traffic Safety on Worcester Rd

Traffic Safety on Worcester Rd

Please remember that parents should not park on Worcester Rd, even if they are waiting in the car. Staff have observed that some parents park in a no stopping zone and wait in the car for their child in the afternoon. This is unsafe.

  • Junior School parents should pick their child up by entering through gate 5, as per our standard procedures.
  • Senior School parents can pick up their child by entering in gate 1.

How Parents can contact the School

Each week these charts will be accessible directly from the newsletter

Parents may need to contact a RHAC staff member for a range of reasons, including transport issues, student wellbeing and student learning needs. The charts below help parents to know who to contact if they have a concern. The parent manual, which is accessible from a link in this newsletter, provides parents with a substantial amount of information which may assist them. The manual provides guidance on how parents and care givers can make a complaint.

The College is keen to celebrate our students' achievements. Their parents are encouraged to share positive stories about their child by writing to [email protected]

Changed traffic conditions - K Block Car Park Right of Way

Changed traffic conditions - K Block Car Park Right of Way

Please note the changed traffic conditions in the K block car park. Traffic leaving the drop-off area now has the right of way. Traffic going to / from the hardcourts must now give way to any traffic exiting the drop-off area. Please follow the updated signage and painted lines as per normal road rules. We anticipate this change will help the traffic flow during peak times by giving priority to the higher volume roadways.

Please take extra care while drivers adapt to these changes.

Bird Flu

During the holidays, Independent Schools NSW wrote to member schools to provide guidance on the recent outbreak of bird flu. They advised Bird flu infections in humans are rare and typically occur following close contact with infected birds or contaminated environments. However, for more abundant caution, I developed a response plan in the event of someone discovering a sick, injured or dead bird on the school site.

Junior School Afternoon car pick up

Junior School Afternoon car pick up

Unfortunately, some parents have been driving up the driveway too early to pick up their children. This is particularly stressful for Pre-K parents who have to park and pick up their children at 3:00pm.

Please note the following times for car pick-up:

  • Pre-K parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and pick up their children from 2:50pm.
  • K-2 parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and wait for directions from staff from 3:15pm.
  • K-6 parents can drive up the Gate 5 driveway and wait for directions from staff from 3:25pm.

Please do not drive up the driveway before your designated time as this holds up the traffic for other parents.

  • Pre-K parents from 2:50pm
  • K-2 parents from 3:15pm
  • K-6 parents from 3:25pm

Additional parking guidelines are provided in the Parent & Carers Handbook below.

RHAC staff value our students and hope that all students will stay with us until they finish Year 12. However, I appreciate that some of our parents choose to move their child to another school each year for a range of reasons. Please remember that the school requires a full term of notice of an enrolment withdrawal, or an additional term of fees will be charged. Therefore, if parents are intending to send their son or daughter to another school next year, the last day they can notify the school without being charged the additional fee is the last day of this term (Friday 25 September). However, it would help our school if you could advise the school earlier than this so that we will have more time to find another student to fill the space.

Celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten Learning

Celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten Learning

Our Kindergarten students recently celebrated an exciting milestone 100 days of learning !

Over the past 100 days, they have embarked on an incredible journey filled with discovery, growth and joy. It has been wonderful to watch each child develop confidence, curiosity and a genuine love for learning as they explored new ideas and experiences every day.

From building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy to developing their social, emotional, physical and creative skills, every day has brought new opportunities to learn and grow. Their enthusiasm, resilience and willingness to embrace new challenges have made these first 100 days truly special.

To mark the occasion, our Kindergarten students welcomed their families for a special celebration. They delighted their parents with a collection of songs they had been practising, proudly showcasing their growing confidence and enthusiasm. The smiles, laughter and applause from families made the event a memorable celebration of all that the students have achieved so far.

The celebrations concluded with a heartwarming family picnic, providing the perfect opportunity for students, parents and teachers to come together and enjoy a beautiful afternoon in the sunshine. The bright, sunny weather was a welcome way to shake off the winter chill as families gathered on the College grounds to share a meal, relax and spend quality time together. It was a delight to see parents reading storybooks with their children, chatting with other families and creating special memories in such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Laughter echoed across the picnic area as friendships were strengthened and our College community came together to celebrate this significant milestone. It was a truly fitting end to a wonderful day, reflecting the strong partnership between home and school and the joy of learning together.

We are incredibly proud of everything our Kindergarten learners have accomplished in their first 100 days at school and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish throughout the rest of the year. Congratulations, Kindergarten, on reaching this wonderful milestone!

Celebrating Dr Kaye Chalwell on National Primary Principals' Day

Celebrating Dr Kaye Chalwell on National Primary Principals' Day

This morning, our Primary School community came together to celebrate National Primary Principals' Day, taking the opportunity to honour and thank our wonderful Head of Junior School, Dr Chalwell, for her faithful leadership and unwavering dedication to our students, staff and families.

To mark the occasion, Dr Chalwell, accompanied by our Junior School Leaders, visited students across the Junior School, spending time with classes from Years 1–6, before sharing special moments with our Kindergarten and Pre-K students. Throughout the morning, students warmly expressed their appreciation through heartfelt messages, smiles and words of gratitude, reflecting the positive impact Dr Chalwell has on our College community.

One of the most memorable highlights was the beautiful collection of video messages prepared by our Stage 1, Kindergarten and Pre-K students. Their joyful songs, thoughtful prayers and sincere words of thanks were a touching tribute, capturing the love and admiration our youngest learners have for Dr Chalwell.

Dr Chalwell's compassionate leadership, deep commitment to Christian education and genuine care for every student continue to shape a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to grow academically, spiritually and personally. Her dedication to our College is deeply appreciated, and we are incredibly thankful for the wisdom, encouragement and support she provides each day.

On behalf of the entire Rouse Hill Anglican College community, we wish Dr Chalwell a very happy National Primary Principals' Day. Thank you for all that you do to lead, inspire and serve our Primary School with grace, humility and faith.
