Partnership is Key

Welcome back to school!

You may be aware that in 2024 our teachers undertook professional development in the form of a research project based on our Teaching and Learning Principle of Explicit Instruction. The results of their investigations were showcased on our Staff Days in December, with many teachers indicating that they would be sustaining some new practices in their classrooms for 2025.

This year, our Stage Leaders (JS) and Heads of Faculty (SS) are leading their teams in active educational research based on one of the five Teaching and Learning Principles. As Mr Hartley mentioned in his recent address to the College community, as a whole school we will be focusing on the practice of Relational Teaching in our professional learning this year.

In the Senior School we have started discussing the relational importance of ‘partnership’ in ensuring that our students receive a well-rounded education. We love to engage with parents at many events such as our recent Launch Night, at Parent-Teacher conferences, and informally at sporting days and College exhibitions.

Our Head of Curriculum, Mr Johnston, and I have been working closely with our middle leaders and teachers to consider ways that we can work with you to support your child’s learning. Throughout the year there will be opportunities for you to attend College events and seminars which should equip you with strategies and ideas to work with your young adults at home, to further deepen their learning experience.

On another note, our wonderful student leaders attended a commissioning service at St Andrew's Cathedral School on Thursday. This important occasion recognises each of them as the face of the future and as role models for our young people. Under the guidance of Mrs Anna Nolan (Head of Years 10-12) and Mrs Edwina Patten (Year 12 Advisor) our leaders represented the College and interacted with students and teachers from other Christian schools.

We are looking forward to a positive and productive year where we can share the gifts we have been blessed with and glorify our God.

Supporting children’s safety at school

Supporting children’s safety at school

It has been a wonderful start to the year in the Junior School. The students have settled in beautifully to their classes and we have already enjoyed the 2025 Leaders’ Induction Assembly , welcoming parents onsite for the Launch Night, and the 2025 Swimming Carnival .

I am very thankful for Mrs Strong and all the staff who worked together to produce such an excellent day at the swimming pool. It is a big day with many moving parts where competition, fun and safety are our major concerns. The competition was well run, and it was great to see so many students participating. Students also enjoyed racing in the 'Lizard Lane' and their time in the indoor pool. We looked after our students’ safety by ensuring they used sunblock, wore their hats and acted safely around the pool. In addition, the lifeguards were ready for any students who struggled in the water.

It isn’t just at the swimming carnival that we take care with students’ safety. We are careful at the College to ensure that students are safe in their classrooms and in the play areas. One area of concern is the safety of our students during car drop-off and pick-up. Please help us to keep our students safe and to model what safe behaviour looks like by doing the following.

When walking through the carparks:

  • Only cross the road at the pedestrian crossing – please do not use any shortcuts.
  • Walk across the pedestrian crossing with your child. We adhere to the NSW Department of Transport guidelines: “ Adults should hold the hands of children up to 8 years old on the footpath, in the car park or when crossing the road”.

When driving on College grounds:

  • Do not use mobile phones while driving.
  • Follow all instructions from teachers.

  • Drive slowly.

When driving around the College, please be aware of students crossing the pedestrian crossing on Worcester Road.

When driving at K Block:

  • Come to a complete standstill when dropping off and picking up students and do not drive off until car doors are closed and students are on the footpath.
  • Move to the carpark and walk in to collect your child if they are not ready to be picked up.
  • Only drop off your children where the car space has an adjacent gate for your children to walk through. For example, do not drop off at the first car space as you turn left into the drop-off zone.
  • Remain in your car during the pickup process when there are teachers on duty.

When parking at K Block:

  • Come and pick up your children; do not ask them to meet you at your car.
  • Do not park in the front row of the carpark as this is unsafe and slows down the drop-off and pick up system.

When using the H Block carpark:

The College is concerned about the safety of students in the H Block carpark. This is due to students not using the pedestrian crossing, parents double parking and the necessity of driving out the way that drivers have come in. We have reviewed the H Block parking to make it safer by making it a one way system.

  • From Monday 17 February, we will remove the orange cones at the end of the lower H block carpark; however, the chain will remain.
  • Enter and leave the H Block carpark through Gate 4.
  • Drive in a clockwise direction:
    • Turn left into the lower H block carpark.
    • Turn right at the end of the lower H block carpark (this is where there have been a set of orange cones).
    • Drive up to the top level of the H Block carpark.
    • Stop at the crossing to check for pedestrians every time you drive up to the top level.
    • Turn right and out Gate 4.
  • Do not drop your children at the top level of the H Block carpark. Please only park in the lower H block carpark. and walk them into the College.
  • Do not park on the grass.

Christian Joy

Christian Joy

If this face looks new to you, it probably is. I am the new Head of Christian Education and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Rev. Ivan Harris (Mr Harris for students) and have already worked at the College for 18 months. I have really enjoyed getting to know the students and staff, and loving the College community. I have experience in Christian Education for over 20 years, and worked in schools, churches, and even prison (“Juvy” Chaplain). I am married and have my own 3 teens (16-19 years old), plus 3 dogs and many fish. I enjoy the energy teens have, and their inquisitive nature about life’s big questions. It is an important time of life to have someone to think through life’s big question and that is why I love to teach Christian Education. I also have the privilege to speak often at Chapel.

Speaking of Chapel, our first Chapel service this year was on the topic of Christian Joy. The two Bible readings below were read and reflected upon.

This first passage is the night before Jesus is taken away to be crucified and has a lot of last words to say to his disciples. He wants them to stay connected to him and interestingly he used joy as the emotion that is at the centre of that love relationship.

9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:9-13

Jesus encourages us to remain connected to him, like a branch to a vine so that we may not only produce fruit in keeping with God’s values, but that our joy will be complete. I wonder if you have a relationship with God that you would describe as full of joy?

The second passage we looked at was from the end of a letter the apostle Paul wrote to the young Church in Philippi. Near the end of the letter, he wanted to encourage them and remind them to be always rejoicing. Paul had recently been arrested (although he was innocent), and the church was anxious for him. Yet, despite his circumstances, because of his relationship with Jesus, he can even write these words about joy and not being anxious despite his circumstances. Listen to what he says:

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:4-9

There is so much in this passage, but I just focused on his repeated phrase ‘rejoice’. We have moments of joy in life, from a nice cup of coffee with a friend, to pets, or hobbies etc… but Christian joy transcends these moments that are temporary or found only in certain contexts. Christian joy is rooted in the promises of God, about life eternal and peace with God through the forgiveness of sins offered by Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Christian joy is our future hope of life forever, when there is no more struggle, pain or sorrow. We can rejoice now, knowing our relationship with God goes on beyond the grave. I pray that you too may experience that kind of Joy in our loving creator God.

Prefects Commissioning Service

Prefects Commissioning Service

On Thursday 13th February, the Year 12 Prefects attended the Commissioning Service at St Andrew’s Cathedral with The Most Reverend Kanishka Raffel, Archbishop of Sydney.

The service was enjoyed by the Prefects and emphasised to them the role they have as leaders to model to others the values of the College.

During the service, the Year 12 Prefects heard from the Archbishop about servant hearted leadership where the welfare of others is their priority. Following the service, students took part in a Q&A session with the Archbishop, and enjoyed morning tea while connecting with leaders from other Anglican schools.

Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival

The Junior School Swimming Carnival was a splash of excitement, energy, fierce competition and loud cheers! Our young swimmers gave it their all, racing through the water with determination, while the supportive crowd of families and staff cheered them on every step of the way!

We are grateful for our staff who organised and volunteered on the day to ensure the carnival was a smooth and memorable event. Shout out to the families who braved the humidity to support our superstars.

JS Music Ensemble Information & Private Music Lessons

Please see below some key information regarding music ensembles and private music tuition as we begin the year.

Music Ensemble Rehearsals

Please refer to the JS Music Ensembles Information linked below for rehearsal days, times and locations.

The following ensembles will commence from Week 3 :

  • Beginner Band – Monday 17th February
  • Dolce Strings (Years 1-3) – Tuesday 18th February
  • Stage 2 Choir – Tuesday 18th February

Stage 1 Choir will commence in Week 5 (Monday, 3rd March) . More details regarding how to join this ensemble will be communicated by Mrs Barnett.

Changes to Music Ensembles

To accommodate the significant growth in our music program over the past few years, we have restructured some of our ensembles:

  • JS Choir , previously for Years 3-6, has now been divided into two stage-based groups:
    • Stage 2 Choir (Years 3-4) will rehearse with Mrs Watson on Tuesday mornings
    • Stage 3 Choir (Years 5-6) will rehearse with Mrs Morris Wednesday mornings
  • String Ensemble was divided into two groups last year. We have renamed these groups to help distinguish between them:
    • Dolce Strings (Years 1-3) will rehearse with Ms Murphy on Tuesday mornings in the K Space/Library
    • Vivace Strings (Years 4-6) will rehearse with Ms Sawyer on Thursday mornings in the Drama Space (next to the TLC)

These changes will allow our conductors to better cater for the musical needs of all students in these ensembles and provide more opportunities for them to perform at College and external events.

The above change to the choirs means that for now there will not be a distinct auditioned ‘Cantabile’ choir. We will proceed with the arrangements above for Terms 1 and 2. I plan to reassess this change based on feedback from our conductors, students and parents and the availability of staff and rehearsals spaces in through the course of the year.

Percussion Ensemble

Junior School Percussion Ensemble auditions will be held on Thursday 13th February during Break 1 in the Music Space. Students should have at least 12 months of private drum/percussion lessons and be able to read percussion music. Please contact Mr. Barnes for more information.

Re-Enrolment and Attendance

Unless you have notified us otherwise, students who participated in an ensemble last year will be automatically re-enrolled. If your child is not continuing in an ensemble this year, please email Mr Tyler Barnes ( [email protected] ) as soon as possible to update our records and avoid being charged an ensemble fee.

A reminder that punctuality and consistent attendance are essential to the success of our ensembles. If a student is unable to attend a rehearsal, please notify the ensemble conductor in advance.

Private Music Lessons

For families interested in private tuition, further details and application forms can be found in the Private Music Tuition Brochure or contact Mrs Neralie Want ( [email protected] ).

Ensemble Fees

The ensemble fee structure for 2025 remains the same:

  • $75.00 per student per semester ($37.50 per term), regardless of the number of ensembles joined.
  • Sibling discount: $50.00 per child per semester ($25.00 per term) for the second and subsequent children.
  • The Stage 1 Choir is exempt from ensemble fees.

These fees help cover the costs of external conductors, accompanists, new repertoire, and performance opportunities.

We are looking forward to another exciting year of music at the College and appreciate your ongoing support in fostering a vibrant and enriching music program.

Camp documentation - which includes permission note, dietary and medical information - was communicated to families this week. The deadline to complete this is Monday, 17th February 2025 as the camp providers require documentation from the College.

We appreciate your support in completing these in a timely manner and can’t wait to see your child thrive in our camp program towards the end of Term 1.

Reminder: Online Consent for School Vaccinations – Year 7 and 10

Reminder: Online Consent for School Vaccinations – Year 7 and 10

An email was communicated to families this week with details on how to give consent.

Vaccination dates:

  • Monday, 17th February – Year 10
  • Monday, 5th May – Year 7

If your child is in Year 7 or Year 10 this year, you can now provide online consent for their routine school vaccinations.

In Year 7, students are offered free vaccines for diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (dTpa) and human papillomavirus (HPV).

In Year 10, students are offered free meningococcal ACWY vaccine.

Please see below for providing online consent for your child.

Parents/Carers Consent

  • To complete online consent parents/carers need to visit the NSW Health School Vaccination Program online consent portal.
  • For detailed steps on how to provide consent, please refer to the NSW Health How to Provide Consent information guide.

Important Note: Vaccination will only be administered at school if consent has been received.

For online consent, parents/carers will need:

  • Their Service NSW login details (or create an account with Service NSW if you don’t already have one).
  • Medicare details for parents/carers and their child.

Benefits of online consent for parents/carers:

  • SMS notification three days before the clinic to remind parents of the vaccination day
  • SMS notifications on the day once vaccinations are given
  • Easy updating of their child’s details online
  • Faster upload of their child’s vaccination records to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

If you are unable to provide consent online, please contact the College on 8824 5844 and a Consent Form can be sent home with your child. All consent will need to be completed prior to the day of vaccination.

A live theatre-based lesson on alcohol for Year 9

As part of the PDHPE curriculum, Year 9 students will engage in this Alcohol Education Incursion during week 5. The incursion is an empowering and relatable theatre in education program developed to complement the work that is being done in the classroom. Smashed helps to embed prior learning and present the issues in a realistic, credible format.

Faculty Support Sessions - Term 1

Do you want to improve your child' s results and their understanding of their coursework? If so, this is a great opportunity to receive guided advice and support.

Faculties in the Senior School conduct weekly opt-in study and support sessions for students to attend as they require.

Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to access subject teachers and support and assistance for work or assessments that are currently completing.

Students do not need to book a place but should arrive to the listed rooms at the times included in the timetable below.

Changes to Music Ensembles

To minimise clashes between various ensembles, there have been some changes to lunchtime rehearsal days for some groups. Please check the information linked above carefully.

We would also like to welcome Mrs Fiona Morris who will be taking on the Senior Vocal Group this year. Mrs Morris is an experienced classroom Music teacher, vocal tutor and conductor. Many students and parents will know Mrs Morris already through her fantastic work with our Junior School students. However, she also brings a wealth of experience in working with Senior School students. We look forward to seeing the continued growth in our Senior Vocal Group this year under her guidance.

Attendance

Music Camp

Our annual Senior School Music Camp will take place from Wednesday 26 February – Friday 28 February (Term 1, Week 4) . Music Camp brings together musicians in Years 7-12 from various music ensembles for three days of intensive rehearsals, tutorials and sectionals.

Students from Concert Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Giocoso Strings will work with their conductors and other invited guests to hone their technical skills and rehearse repertoire for upcoming performances and festivals. Music Camp is also an opportunity to foster a sense of community amongst our musicians and for students to build relationships with one another, especially across year groups.

Music Camp is an important part of the College’s music program and it is expected that every member of the ensembles listed above will attend.

An information letter regarding Music Camp was sent out (Tuesday, 4th February) to parents of students who are already in enrolled in one of the above ensembles. If your child is interested in joining one of these ensembles and attending the camp, please sign up using the link above and information will be sent to you in Week 2.

We are looking forward to another exciting year of music at the College and appreciate your ongoing support in fostering a vibrant and enriching music program.

A message from the RHAC P&F Association

It’s hard to believe we’re already through our first two weeks of the school year! The RHAC P&F Association exists to create a sense of community , develop greater connections between college families and to contribute back to our children’s lives at the college.

I have been privileged to meet many new parents of the College over the past couple of weeks, both on the College grounds, and at the JS and SS Swimming Carnivals that took place this week. Parent support for enriching their time at the College has been an overwhelming topic in our conversations.

Parents and community involvement

The beginning of the year is always a great time to consider your involvement in the P&F and we’ve got multiple ways to get involved based on your capacity. The P&F facilitates several events throughout the year such as Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls and breakfasts, discos, BBQ’s and various other social opportunities and we are looking forward to kicking off 2025.

There are various ways to get involved as a parent volunteer. We have a P&F Executive Committee who meet monthly and contribute toward P&F strategy, planning and execution of our events. Meetings typically occur the first Tuesday of the month. Alternatively, our Volunteer Committee works on an opt-in / opt-out basis based on your own capacity at the time so is highly flexible to be engaged. During March, we will hold our Annual General Meeting where we will invite parents to the college one evening and they can learn more about the P&F and we will induct new members to our P&F Executive Committee. More details on this meeting will follow.

If you are interested in getting involved, we invite you to register your details by simply sending a note to [email protected] so we can better communicate with you between now and our AGM. All of the committee look forward to getting to know our RHAC community better and to hosting events with you. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our Executive Committee from 2024, and to our College Staff for working closely together to help on our mission.

During 2024, we pledged just short of $100,000 to the College toward various projects to improve our children’s experiences, which couldn’t have happened without the support of our generous families – thank you!

School Bus Travel Changes - Day 1 Term 1 2025

5077, 6089 & 6090 - AM SERVICE
Commencing Day 1 of Term 1 2025; Friday 31st January 2025, Morning School Buses 5077, 6089 & 6090 will operate revised path and times to address bell time compliancy for all Schools currently serviced.

School Bus 5077:

  • Depart Greens Rd opposite Ted Pike Reserve at 8:12am and continue via Greens Rd, left Marella Av, right James Mileham Dr, left Samantha Riley Dr, right Brampton Dr, right Mungerie Rd, left Withers Rd to Commercial Rd at 8:31am, then continue as per current path & times to Rouse Hill Anglican College at 8:40am.
  • Kellyville High School removed from School Bus 5077. Alternatively, students can utilise CDC NSW Route 651.

School Bus 6089:

  • Depart Rouse Hill Station at 8:06am and continue via current path to Kellyville High School at 8:23am.

School Bus 6090:

  • Depart Rouse Hill Station at 7:43am and continue via current path to Windsor Rd & Acres Rd, then continue Windsor Rd, left President Rd to Kellyville High School at 8:00am, continue President Rd, right Green Rd, left Wrights Rd to William Clarke College at 8:08am.

Please bookmark the new College Shop website so that you can order uniforms easily. If this is your first time visiting the new uniform shop you will need to create a new login and password and read the full user guide below.

College Shop Hours (eff. 26/10/23)

Uniform fittings are by appointment only. Over-the-counter sales are available throughout.

For holiday hours (eg. term holidays, Easter, Christmas/New Year), please check for notices under College News of the newsletter.

As soon as the school bell sounds our team will be waiting with a high-5, big smile and fully planned afternoon of entertainment. This clinic is specially designed for the children of Rouse Hill Anglican College and parents can relax knowing that everything takes place on school grounds. Our event is designed to motiv8, encourage, build resilience and inspire children to be successful. Our clinic represents awesome value and over the course of the program your child will experience: Super Soccer, Ultimate League, Vortex Gridiron, Ballers, Street Hockey, Rope Wars, Bazooka Ball, Flagball, 8-Down, Command-0 and a long list of other cool non-contact sports.
