From our Principal
Relationships, Communication and Community
Relationships, Communication and Community
Relationships are fundamental to the Christian faith. In addition to our relationship to God, the Bible teaches us a great deal about our relationships with each other. For example
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4, 8-10
Relationships are an important part of the RHAC vision.
To be a united, Christian learning community committed to taking opportunities, serving and achieving.
Being a unified Christian community takes thought and effort. Loving others deeply means perceiving others, knowing what to say, how to say it and when to say it. Offering hospitality takes time, effort and personal sacrifice. Being kind to others without grumbling requires self-discipline.
Achieving a genuinely unified Christian learning community is challenging. Parents, students and staff are all busy people. This means that clear structures for how parents and college staff communicate are important. Therefore, I have created some charts that help parents to know the best person to contact if they have a question or a concern. Each week these charts will be accessible directly from the newsletter.
To assist in ensuring processes are clearly followed and effective, please follow the chart and don’t send an email to multiple staff members. This causes confusion and delays processing the inquiry. Please simply contact the person mentioned in the chart and wait for a response.
I understand that some parents are writing to teachers asking for specific additional feedback on how their child is tracking in their learning or other personalised requests for information about their child.
While I can appreciate that parents are keen to have a strong understanding of their son or daughter's progress, the school is not able to provide information in addition to our standard reporting processes. Our teachers are already working hard to provide every student with a great education. Expecting teachers to provide substantial additional feedback on progress or further personalised advice on how to improve, in addition to what they are already doing, is beyond what I can reasonably ask of them.
An exception to this would be if parents need further information to help address a specific identified need e.g. a teacher provides information about a student that will be given to a treating doctor or psychologist. Another exemption would be if a parent noticed their child’s mood or behaviour at home had deteriorated and then they write to a teacher to ask if they had observed any changes or had any advice. Our teachers are already engaging in communications of this type with many parents.
Our leadership staff actively encourage teachers to be pro-active in contacting parents if they have information to share or if they need to raise a concern.
Occasionally in a large, busy school community like RHAC, parents feel convicted that they should raise difficult issues or make a formal complaint. These concerns may be well founded. The Parent Handbook, which is accessible through the newsletter, provides specific guidance on how parents can raise issues of concern and make complaints.
Please remember that the school asks that complaints and criticisms are not made until after the parents have heard the school’s side of the story. On a handful of occasions over the last 12 months, the school has received complaints from parents making strong criticisms of staff who have issued firm consequences for their child’s misconduct. However, these criticisms are based solely on what their child has told them. Therefore, I ask parents that if their child criticises a teacher, simply write to that teacher to ask for their side of the story before drawing conclusions. Please remember that the school will not always be able to grant requests for meetings if a parent is unhappy.
I trust that parents can appreciate why I need to structure communication between school and home, and why I need to place reasonable limits around the level of individual communication and information that we can provide. However, please do not interpret what I have said to mean that I do not want parents to engage with RHAC staff. To the contrary, I am committed to strong school-home relationships and communication. By providing these structures and requirements I am confident that our teachers will be better able to have positive, meaningful connections with a wider number of parents.

From the Scriptures
One Body Many Parts
One Body Many Parts
“As it is, there are many parts. But there is only one body.”
1 Corinthians 12:12-20
This week in Junior School, we had the joy of celebrating our rich cultural diversity as we held our Celebration of Cultures Day. It was a day of sharing together and learning from one another and it was a wonderful reminder of the beauty of God’s world – that in His wisdom, He did not create a one-dimensional world but rather one that is full of difference and creativity. We are one school community made up of many different parts.
In the first letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul describes the church as one body made up of many different parts. As he explains this image to these new Christians, he writes this:
There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink. So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts.
Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. And suppose the ear says, “I am not an eye. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell? God has placed each part in the body just as he wanted it to be. If all the parts were the same, how could there be a body? As it is, there are many parts. But there is only one body. 1 Corinthians 12:12-20
Paul reminds the Corinthians that God created our bodies with different parts that have different functions but that work together to make the one body work well. In the same way, God has placed people with many different strengths and weaknesses together in Christ’s church to play their different parts to help the one body function as a whole. All parts are needed for the body to function correctly. And the same applies here at school – in our community of so many people, we are all different and we have different roles to play. But each person is vital to the healthy functioning of the whole ‘body’ here.
May our school community be one where each person within it is valued and seen as essential to the overall wellbeing of the whole system. May we celebrate the God-given uniqueness of each individual part. And may the truth that Jesus came to earth to give His life to offer forgiveness to each person in our community, be a truth that spurs us on to value each part of the whole, whoever they are and whatever role they play.

AICES Secondary Cross Country
Our HZSA Cross Country team returned to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre this week, this time for the AICES Cross Country Championships, where more than 700 runners from NSW co‑educational independent schools competed for a coveted place at the CIS Carnival. Despite the cold conditions making the course even more challenging, our students delivered outstanding performances and helped secure Hills Zone’s 3rd place overall.
We are proud to acknowledge the following Top 10 results:
Abbey Lincoln — 4th, Girls 13 Years (3000m)
Jalen Karbon — 2nd, Boys 13 Years (3000m)
Savannah Prime — 3rd, Girls 14 Years (4000m)
Holly Wilson — 6th, Girls 15 Years (4000m)
These athletes have now qualified for the AICES team and will represent our school at the CIS Cross Country Championships on 25 June. We congratulate them on their determination and wish them all the best as they take on the next level of competition.

HZSA Semester One Finals
Our Senior Girls Netball team entered their HZSA Final as strong favourites after an impressive regular season of seven wins and just one loss, and they delivered a performance that reflected that form. From the opening possession, the girls set the tone with confident ball movement, accurate shooting, and disciplined defensive pressure that limited the opposition’s scoring opportunities.
Their teamwork and composure were evident throughout the match, with clean transitions through the mid‑court and several well‑timed intercepts helping them maintain control. As the game progressed, the girls continued to build momentum, eventually pulling away to secure a 23–12 victory and claim the title of HZSA Champions. A fantastic achievement, well done, girls. Congratulations also to Alumni student Katie Bull who coached the team this season.

Our Intermediate Girls Netball GOLD team competed in the HZSA Division A Final this week, taking on an undefeated opponent who had previously beaten them convincingly earlier in the season. Determined to show their improvement, the girls produced a strong, disciplined performance, matching their opponent’s goal for goal through the opening stages and heading towards half‑time with the scores locked.
Their defensive pressure, clean ball movement, and accurate shooting kept the match tight right into the final quarter. Although the opposition found a late run to take the win 31–27, our girls earned the title of HZSA Runners Up, a result that reflects their growth, teamwork, and resilience across the season. A fantastic effort and one they should be proud of. A big thank you also goes to Ms O’Hagan who coached the team this season.

Representative Success
Congratulations to Year 8 student Flynn Islaub, who proudly represented NSW CIS at the NSW All Schools 14 Years & Under Australian Football Championships held earlier this week in Albury. It was a demanding tournament, with the CIS side facing strong opposition from across the state. After a tough opening day that saw two narrow losses, the team regrouped impressively, responding with two convincing wins to finish 2nd overall.
In speaking with Flynn, he shared how grateful he was for the opportunity to represent CIS and how much he enjoyed competing against talented players from both the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges and the NSW Combined High Schools. His commitment, positive attitude, and willingness to embrace the challenge reflect the qualities we value in our student athletes.
Well done, Flynn on an outstanding achievement and a memorable experience.
Our Junior Boys Football team will take the field next week in the HZSA Grand Final, capping off a season built on consistency, teamwork, and steady improvement. We wish them good luck as they prepare for this match.

Saving the World One Green Bin at a Time!
Saving the World One Green Bin at a Time!
Recently, Year 6 was visited by the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company, who performed a fun and interactive show about Blacktown Council's Green Bin program. The performance taught us how putting food scraps and garden waste into our green bins can help solve an old environmental problem, methane gas.
Methane is a harmful gas that is produced when food waste rots in landfill. The show explained that by using our green bins correctly, this waste can be turned into compost instead of creating methane. It is an innovative solution that can make a big difference for the environment
Year 6 loved the performance and our new space perfectly transformed into a theatrette without us having to book another space in the school. There were lots of laughs and some students were even chosen to come on stage and help "save the world" by being the mouthpiece of a particular food.
One of the highlights of the show was Harper Perry's performance on stage. Her hilarious facial expressions had excellent comic timing. She absolutely tickled everyone's funny bone. We are convinced that Harper is a natural, and perhaps will be a world-renowned actress one day?
The Eaton Gorge Theatre Company, although very loud acoustically, did a fantastic job of making an important environmental message for the Term 2 Sustainability Science unit -memorable and easy to understand. We all left knowing that something as simple as using our green bins correctly can help create a cleaner and greener future

Celebration of Cultures Day
Celebration of Cultures Day
On Wednesday, we held our Junior School Celebration of Cultures Day. It was wonderful to see and learn about some of the things that are unique to the many cultures represented in the Junior School.
This year we were again fortunate to have parents who generously gave up their time to share their culture so passionately and professionally with our students on the day. They also spent numerous hours planning and organising the activity beforehand. Thank you to all these parents who presented and those who supported their children in preparing beautiful cultural displays for the day.
I also thank the students who performed with incredible talent at the various cultural activities and assemblies. It was beautiful to see the enthusiasm of our students and their friends as they learnt from one another.
In the book of Revelation, John describes the remarkable picture of those gathered around the throne of God in this way:
“ After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”(Revelation 7:9)
Pictured here are people from all nations, tribes, people groups and languages who have come to follow Jesus and are worshipping Him around His throne. Our Celebration of Cultures Day was a joyful glimpse of that promised hope to come.
We thank God for the wonderful weather we had and the joyous time celebrating together.

Combine Independent Schools (CIS) Touch Football Gala Day.
Congratulations to the Cohen I and Hudson T who played at CIS Primary Touch Football Championships this week.
It was the first Primary Hills Zone Sporting Association (HZSA) Team in this sport and the boys had an excellent day with lots of close games and wins against NCIS and the Barbarians side, as well as, a draw with CASA to finish 5th overall.
Well done to Cohen who made it to the possible / probable trial game.

Hills Zone Afternoon Sport.
Last week, we wrapped up the Stage 2 and Stage 3 HZSA Afternoon Sport Competition, marking the end of a fantastic semester of sport. Congratulations to all students who participated, it was a pleasure to watch you take to the field/court each week and compete against other Hills Zone schools with enthusiasm and pride.
Throughout the season, it was wonderful to see the growth in each team. Students developed not only their skills, but also their understanding of teamwork. Week by week, we saw confidence build with players supporting one another, celebrating successes, and learning from games that didn’t go our way.
Although the final round brought some challenging results, it was inspiring to see how positively students reflected on their performances. The smiles at the end of the day said it all.
A big thank you must also go to our Senior School students, who gave their time each week to referee and umpire. Your commitment, leadership and willingness to serve are deeply appreciated. These competitions simply would not run without your support and it is clear how much our younger students value your encouragement and presence.
Well done to everyone involved in what has been a rewarding and enjoyable season!
