A message from Principal Hartley

  • Welcome back to Term 2

  • New Senior School update

I trust that families had a restful Easter and enjoyed the break from school routines over the autumn school holidays.

On Monday, our teaching staff were part of a professional development day on relational teaching, which is our 2025 focus area. My devotion to start the day referred to the following passage from the Bible:

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

Mark 12: 28-31

Bishop JC Ryle captured the practical application of these verses roughly 150 years ago. His words are as relevant today as they were then. He said that Jesus was talking about treating everyone we meet well, regardless of their social status, race or the language they speak. Ryle said that everyone is to be treated on the level of truly being made in the image of God, and that there is a beauty to human relationships.

The fact that every person is made in God’s image is fundamental to relational teaching at RHAC. Even though our children may be quite different from each other, because they are fearfully, wonderfully and uniquely made in God’s image they are all valued by our staff.

Our keynote speaker on the day is a leading academic on relational teaching. He talked about personal care, where teachers care for the student as an individual and pedagogical care where the teacher cares for each student as a learner. He also referred to the importance of interpersonal care, where each student is cared for as a member of the school community.

I am thankful to parents that our teachers had the time on Monday to consider how best to relate meaningfully and deeply with every child to help achieve the College vision of students being able to take opportunities, serve others and achieve.

I trust that that the parent teacher meetings on Tuesday developed a meaningful parent/teacher connection that will help our students to learn and achieve to the best of their ability.

After almost two years of construction work, on Wednesday Senior School students started using our new building. I walked through the building a few times at the change of lessons to get a feel for how our students for engaging with the new facility. Without any prompting, several students spoke very positively about the new classrooms.

The ground floor of the new building houses our technology subjects (e.g. timber, food and IT), visual arts, drama and our new canteen. The first floor is dedicated to science and the top floor to maths. There are a few issues we need to resolve with the canteen before it opens, although I do not anticipate an extended delay.

Last term, I invited parents to complete a survey expressing their interest in joining a tour of the new building in the latter half of this term. In a few weeks, the College will send parents a link that will enable them to book into a tour.

From the Scriptures

The Sacrifice of the ANZACs

The Sacrifice of the ANZACs

As we remember the sacrifice of the ANZACs, we are reminded of the profound depth of sacrifice exemplified in the Bible. One key text that resonates with their courage and sacrifice is John 15:13 (NIV), which states, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."

The ANZACs, who fought bravely for their country, displayed a remarkable spirit of selflessness and dedication. They laid down their lives, not just for their comrades but for the freedom and safety of future generations. This ultimate sacrifice echoes the love that Jesus Christ demonstrated on the cross, where He laid down His life for humanity.

In reflecting on this verse, we are called to honour and remember those who have sacrificed everything. Their legacy reminds us of the importance of love, service, and the willingness to put others before ourselves. As we remember the ANZACs, let us also consider how we can embody this spirit of sacrifice in our own lives—by serving our communities, supporting those in need, and standing up for what is right.

In prayer, let us ask for the strength to follow their example, to love fiercely, and to be willing to make sacrifices for the sake of others, just as our Saviour Jesus did for us. Amen.

Senior School Cross Country

The College’s SS Cross Country Carnival was held on the final Thursday of Term 1. It was a great celebration of school spirit, competition, and community. Under perfect weather conditions, over 600 students laced up their runners and took to the course, showcasing outstanding effort, determination, and sportsmanship.

Participation was at an all-time high, with students giving their all not just for personal achievement, but to earn valuable house points in the pursuit of the House Cup. It was fantastic to see so many students push themselves across the finish line, cheered on by their peers and staff.

But the action wasn’t limited to the track. The oval was filled with games, laughter, and a high-energy dance-off that saw students (and even a few staff!) bring their best moves and school spirit to Regional Park. These off-track activities added a fun, inclusive dimension to the day and highlighted the positive energy that defines our school community.

A big thank you goes to all staff and student leaders who helped make the event run smoothly, and to every student who contributed to making this year’s carnival a day to remember. Whether you ran, danced, or cheered, you helped make it a success. We will announce the carnival results at our next Senior School assembly.

Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the Hills Zone Cross Country on Tuesday 20th May:

Bill Turner Football

In the final week of Term 1, the College hosted two Round 1 knockout football matches as part of the prestigious Bill Turner competitions. Both our Bill Turner Cup (Boys) and Bill Turner Trophy (Girls) teams took to the field in front of strong home support and delivered impressive performances.

The girls were first to play, facing off against Quakers Hill High School. From the opening whistle, our team dominated proceedings, scoring early and frequently to take a commanding 7-0 lead into halftime. The defensive line was rock-solid, with Quakers Hill unable to move the ball more than 10 metres into our half throughout the opening 30 minutes. The team carried their momentum into the second half, finishing the match with a remarkable 15-0 victory and securing a place in Round 2 against Rouse Hill High School.

The boys followed later in the week, coming up against a tough Mitchell High School outfit. It was a closely contested match, with both teams scoring in the first half. Goalkeeper Oliver S was outstanding between the posts, making several crucial saves to keep the game level early in the second half. A late penalty proved to be the difference, sealing a 2-1 win and setting up a Round 2 clash with The Ponds High School.

Congratulations to both teams on their excellent starts to the tournament. We look forward to seeing how far they can go in 2025!

AICES Netball Championships

This week, five of our talented netballers proudly represented both the College and the Hills Zone Sports Association (HZSA) at the AICES Netball Championships.

On Tuesday, our Open Girls took to the court, competing against strong teams from across the AICES network. Zoe R, Sienna W, and Cassie Y demonstrated outstanding skill, determination, and teamwork throughout a long and competitive day, helping their team finish as runners-up.

The competition continued on Wednesday with the 15s team in action. Hayley C and Ana D represented HZSA with distinction, playing consistently across all matches. Like the Opens, their team finished second overall, only dropping one game for the day.

A special congratulations goes to Hayley C, who has been selected in the AICES team to compete at the CIS Championships later this month — a fantastic achievement and well-deserved recognition of her performance.

Well done to all students involved on representing the College with pride and excellence.

CIS Swimming Championships

We extend our best wishes to the following students who will be representing both the College and AICES at the CIS Swimming Championships, taking place on Monday evening and Tuesday next week:

  • Hanna L
  • Zahli P
  • Riley W
  • Zoe W

We are incredibly proud of their dedication and achievements so far and know they will give their all in the pool. Good luck and go well!

Term 2 Representative Sports Calendar & Nomination Guidelines

Term 2 Representative Sports Calendar & Nomination Guidelines

This calendar outlines the nomination (Nom), trial and competition dates for the RHAC Senior School representative sporting pathways (HZSA > AICES > CIS > NSW All Schools > SSA). As this is a representative pathway, students who nominate to trial for these teams should have extensive playing experience and in the case of AICES and CIS trials, students be playing in a representative team outside of school at an association or state level. Some sports, such as cricket, require students to be involved in certain representative teams or academies in order for nominations to be accepted. If this is the case, further information will be emailed to students by the Head of Student Opportunities. Students trialling for OPEN or U18/19 teams must, at a minimum, be in Year 9 (Students in Year 9 MUST have extensive representative experience).

Hills Relay for Life - Sat 17 - Sun 18 May

Hills Relay for Life - Sat 17 - Sun 18 May

Cancer Council's Hills Relay For Life is coming up in Week 3 this term on Saturday, 17th May to Sunday, 18th of May, and, as always, our RHAC community is getting involved to help fight against cancer.

Thanks to a generous donation from Coca-Cola CCEP and our teachers, students and RHAC community, we’ve raised over $12,000 so far! Our goal for this year is $18,000 and we’re almost at the finish line. So far we’ve helped fund 7,521 kids with a Sunsmart education, 185 calls to trained cancer professionals, and 100 days of a PhD student's world-class research.

To find out more, watch the video below on our RHAC socials!

In our RHAC school community this term, we have a jelly bean guessing competition , as well as a barbeque fundraiser , and a Ralph round RHAC guesser to get our school involved! In our Junior School, the colouring-in-competition, featuring our RHAC Relay mascot, Ralph, has already kicked off, with a lot of entries already coming in! Our Junior school leaders will be choosing and announcing the winners in week 4. You can download the colouring-in page below.

If you want to join us in this fight against cancer, the Relay will be held in Hills Showground from 9:00am Saturday, 17th May to 9:00am on Sunday, 18th May. Our senior Drumline is opening the event again this year and as always our RHAC stand will be selling hot cup noodles and soft drinks, thanks to the generous donation from our RHAC P&F Association and Coca-Cola.

If you would like to join us on the day, or show your support as we walk the Relay For Life, you can visit the RHAC Community Relay For Life page via the link below.

Family Support Meals

Family Support Meals

From time to time, fellow families at the College are hit by unforeseen stresses (physical, emotional, financial, etc.). The RHAC P&F, through your support, facilitates a way for those families to access quality meals in their time of need to simply ease a bit of the pain during difficult times.

You can help by donating a store-bought meal , or by donating as little as $10.00 by clicking the TryBooking link below which would be greatly appreciated. If you can provide a store-bought meal for the freezer, slices/banana breads / muffins (lunch box fillers) and desserts are also most welcome and may be dropped off with Mrs Sharon D’Agostino at the College main reception.
