Term 1 has flown by in a whirlwind of lessons, excursions, incursions, performance evenings, sports carnivals and myriad other activities! It has been a positive and enthusiastic start to the year, culminating for many in the 7-10 camps that were held over three days last week.
School holidays are almost upon us and the opportunity for our students to relax, unwind and have some leisure time is here. As a parent, we often hear phrases such as ‘I’m bored’ or ‘there’s nothing to do’... yet in this age, rather than this being problematic, we recognise that boredom is an essential experience which can be character forming and promote creativity and reflective thinking.
When the term has been one of growth and constant activity, we can also often fear that stopping for a break will halt our progress or somehow demotivate us. A simple (and gentle) solution is to consider the following ideas as to how students can keep the momentum going for their academic and character development:
- Read. Less screen time and more books have many long-lasting benefits.
- Serve others . Engaging in local community activities, helping out at home or at church, joining an environmental group… all of these types of activities have been proven to boost well being as well as benefiting others. Many of our students will be serving the community through their participation in local ANZAC Day services in both Castle Hill and Riverstone.
- Prepare for Term 2 . A few days before school commences (or on the first two days of term which are student-free), it is a good idea to organise your resources and ensure any holiday homework is up to date. Feeling prepared and having a plan helps set a positive tone for the term ahead! Our Year 12 students will know this to be the case.
In Term 2 we will begin to occupy our new Senior School building and enjoy the learning facilities it will offer. I look forward to sharing photographs and more information with you as the next term unfolds.
Please note our updated our uniform policy which can be found in the Parent and Carer Handbook . Of particular importance is the section on the wearing of jewellery and in particular, religious jewellery. This section includes what to do to receive an exemption or variation in relation to RHAC’s stated uniform requirements.
At our Easter Chapel service we reflected on the gift of the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our salvation is through Him alone and we give glory to Him for all that we have done this term and for the gifts we have received. Many local churches are advertising times for their Easter services on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, if you would like to hear more.
Finally, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our staff at the College. Our teachers and our support staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that the term has been well organised and that students have been learning effectively.
We look forward to seeing you at the Parent Teacher Interviews in Week 1.
